Summary
NT SE 2019: NCERT conducted national level examination (stage II) on June 16, 2019. T he NT SE result 2019 for stage II
exam is expected to be out in September. Candidates qualifying National T alent Search Examination (NT SE) will be awarded
scholarship. In this article you will get information about NT SE scholarship scheme, exam dates and events and also major
changes in NT SE over the years.
T he state level NT SE 2019 was conducted by respective states/UT s on November 03, 04 and 18, 2018. NT SE 2019 results
for stage I were declared by all states/UT s in January-March 2019.

NT SE exam at national level (Stage 2) was rescheduled for June 16, 2019 instead of May 12, 2019 due to Lok Sabha Elections
2019.
NCERT has revised number of scholarships to be awarded brginning this year. From the year 2019, a total of 2000
candidates will be awarded the NT SE scholarship. T his number was 1000 till last year.

What is NTSE exam?


National T alent Search Examination popularly known as NT SE is conducted by National Council of Educational Research
and T raining (NCERT ) for identifying talented students who want to pursue higher education in Science and Social Studies
streams. T he examination is conducted at two levels i.e. first, state-level talent search examination and then, National Level
T alent Search Examination. T he State Level T alent Search Exam is conducted by 29 States/07 UT s for all students studying in
Class 10th. T he students qualifying in State Level T alent Search Examination are eligible to appear in NT SE stage II
examination to be conducted by NCERT . T he aim of NT SE scheme is to award talented students pursuing education in
Science and Social Studies stream with scholarships to help continue their education.

Major Chang es in National T alent Search Examination by NCERT over the past years:

How it began
T he programme was started in 1963 as National Science T alent Search Scheme (NST SS) as an initiative to help talented
students with scholarships. T he students who applied for NT SE scholarships were selected on the basis of qualification in the
written test, project report and interview. T he written test included Science Aptitude T est (SAT ) and an essay based on a
scientific theme only. T he project report was also needed to be submitted at the time of written test. T he scholarships were
awarded to only those students who wanted to pursue higher education in Basic Sciences from Class 11th to Doctoral level.

Over the years since it was started, the exam conducting authority made drastic changes in the examination pattern, subject,

Eligibility

NTSE Eligibility 2019


Candidates who want to obtain NT SE 2019 scholarship must fulfil the eligibility criteria for NT SE exam as mentioned by
National Council of Educational Research and T raining (NCERT ). NT SE Eligibility Criteria 2019 are the requirements such as
academic qualification, age limit and minimum qualifying marks in previous class. NCERT prescribed NT SE Eligibility is
followed by all States/UT s conducting Stage I exam for NT SE. Only candidates who will satisfy NT SE Eligibility Criteria 2019
will be awarded with the scholarship after the announcement of NT SE 2019 stage II results. Check here in detail about NT SE

Candidates need to fulfil the eligibility criteria for NT SE Stage 1 exam as mentioned below:
Candidates currently studying in Class 10th from any recognized Private/Government schools including Kendriya Vidyalaya,
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and Sainik Schools can apply.
T he candidates can appear in their respective state/UT ’s NT SE tier I exam, although there is no limit on domicile.
T he SCERT of respective state/UT s may mention any additional criteria for stage I exam such as minimum qualifying marks
in the previous class.
Moreover, candidates who are completing their education from Open and Distance Learning (ODL) such as National Institute
of Open Schooling (NIOS) or state Open boards are also eligible to apply and appear for NT SE 2019.
T he candidates studying from Open and Distance Learning must not be 18 years old or less at the time of appearing in the
scholarship exam. Moreover, they should not be employed (not even part-time jobs) and they should be appearing in Class
10th qualifying examination for the first time.

NTSE 2019 Eligibility Criteria for NTSE Stage II exam –


NTSE Elig ibility for candidates studying in India:
Candidates appearing for National Level T alent Search Examination i.e. NT SE stage II exam by NCERT need to fulfil the
below-mentioned eligibility criteria -
T hey must be an Indian National irrespective of where they are pursuing their Class 10th qualifying examination i.e. in India or
Abroad
T hey must have qualified stage I exam at the state level.

NTSE Elig ibility for candidates studying outside India:


T he Indian national candidates studying abroad can directly appear for stage II exam of NT SE scholarship award.

T hey should, although have scored at least 60% marks in their previous class qualifying examination i.e. in Class 9th.
Such candidates should be planning to pursue their hig her education in India only after obtaining the NT SE Scholarship.

NTSE Eligibiility 2019: General Requirements for awarding NTSE Scholarships –


T he candidate should pursue only the approved courses in Science, Social Sciences, Engineering and Medical streams only.
T he candidate should be willing to pursue higher education in India only
T he candidates should be certified as maintaining good conduct at their school and should continue their higher education
T hey should not be absent from school without proper leave or informing the school authorities
T he candidates should be a full-time student and should not be working anywhere or getting salary/stipend.
If the candidate is getting scholarship under any other scheme as well then, he/she should decide which scholarship scheme
he/she wants to continue with.
If any candidate is getting any other scholarship then, his/her NT S Scholarship will be stopped for that year and can be
continued only after he/she requests NCERT for resuming the scholarship; they have to discontinue benefits from other
scholarship schemes.
Although, the candidates getting fee waivers/ one-time grant/fee subsidy and accommodation are eligible for NT SE
Scholarship and they won’t be refused NT S scholarship
If any candidate drops studies or discontinues his/her education within one of admission, then no scholarship will be awarded
to him/her.
T he candidates should pass in all subjects of their course in first attempt only and if they fail in any of the core subject his/her
scholarship will be cancelled.

Process
NT SE Reg istration and Application at State level (NT SE stag e1 exam)– T he students who wished to appear for
National T alent Search Examination 2019 could apply from their respective state/UT in the offline/online mode or as
specified by the exam authorities.
T he notification for application form availability of NT SE state level examination was available in the local/national
newspapers or circulars circulated in the schools by the respective state/UT .
T he NT SE Application Form 2019 could be obtained from the listed Liaison Officers for the states/UT s only.
Moreover, before submitting the application form of NT SE to the Liaison Officers, candidates needed to get it duly signed by
the Principal of their School. Moreover, the admit card for NT SE Stage 1 exam is also attached along with the offline
application form of NT SE and need to be filled. T his admit card is then signed by the state Liasion officer and handed over to
candidate in the second week of October.
T he NT SE application form 2019 needed to be submitted on or before the last date of application as mentioned by the
concerned state/UT . T he states/UT s may have levied some charges for application form of NT SE 2019.
NT SE e-Admit Cards - T he admit card of NT SE stage 1 exam 2019 was made available by exam conducting authorities at
least 15 days before the exam date. T he candidates who applied for NT SE 2018-2019 were issued admit card by their
respective state/UT for state level examination. T he candidates who qualify the state level examination are issued admit card
by NCERT for stage 2 exam in the online mode only on the official website of NCERT .
NT SE stag e1 at State/UT level- T he states/UT s conducted the examination for NT SE stage 1 exam 2019 in the offline
mode at appointed exam centres only.
NT SE Result announcement f or stag e 1 exam - T he NT SE 2019 stage I results mentions the qualifying status of
candidates for both papers i.e. MAT and SAT . T he candidates can check the result of NT SE stage 1 exam in the online mode
as it will be available on official website of the SCERT /DGE of the respective state/UT . T he NT SE stage I exam result 2019 is
made available in the form of merit list, which mentions names, marks, ranks of all qualified candidates for the respective
state/UT .
NT SE stag e 2 exam at National Level: All those candidates who qualified the stage 1 exam of NT SE 2019 at the state level
were eligible to appear for national level NT SE which is conducted by NCERT . T he exam pattern, exam details and subjects
are the same as NT SE stage 1.
NT SE Stag e 2 Results: T he result of NT SE T ier II examination will be announced in September 2019 for all candidates. T he
candidates will be able to check their NT SE stage 2 result through the link provided by NCERT and they need to enter their roll
numbers and date of birth to login. T he result will mention separate scores as well as the combined score for MAT and SAT
paper. T he disbursement of NT SE scholarship will be based on Merit list after the announcement of NT SE stage 2 results
2019 only.

Exam Centers
T he NT SE state level and national level examination is organized at NT SE exam centres 2019 as listed by the exam
conducting authorities. For state level examination of NT SE, the respective state/UT allotts the exam centres to cadidates
which is mentioned on the NT SE admit card. For NT SE 2019 stage 2, the examination is conducted at the designated test
centres by NCERT . T here is generally one exam centre for each state/UT for NT SE 2019 stage 2 examination. T his is
mentioned on the admit card released by NCERT in the month of April/May.

NT SE 2019 stage 2 has been conducted on June 16, 2019 (Sunday) and the results are expected to be out in September.
Earlier, the exam date for NT SE stage II was May 12, 2019, however it was postponed due to Lokh Sabha Elections 2019 held
in May across India.

NT SE exam dates 2019 provided here mention all events such as application dates, admit cards release date, exam dates as
well as result dates for stage 1 and stage 2 exam. T he application dates for NT SE stage 1 2019 were different for all states
and UT s. T he application forms were available on offcial websites of respective states/UT s conducting NT SE stage I exam
2019 and candidates needed to apply before the last date as mentioned by their respective state/UT .
T he exam dates mentioned for the state level exam are first Saturday of November for Nagaland, Andaman and Nicobar
Island, Meghalaya and Mizoram. T he NT SE stage 1 exam for all other states/UT s except in Nagaland, Andaman and Nicobar
Island, Meghalaya and Mizoram is the first Sunday of November every year. T his year, the exam date for NT SE stage I is
different for West Bengal as well.
As per the update by Kerala SCERT , the exam date was revised to November 18, 2018 due to f loods in the state. Earlier,
Kerala state level NT SE 2019 was scheduled for November 04 , 2018.
T he exam date for NT SE stage II is the same for all states/UT s and is usually conducted on the second Sunday of May every
year. T his year, it has been conducted on June 16, 2019. T he latest schedule for NT SE 2018-2019 has been announced by
NCERT and candidates can check below to keep track of all important events –

T he NT SE application process for the year 2019 has ended. All states and UT s will begin the NT SE application process 2020
from the first week of August, 2019.
Many states will release the application form online on the official website of SCERT while others will release offline.
Candidates studying in class 10th can download the application form of NT SE 2020 online or even obtain the same from the
state liaison officer. Candidates will have to submit the completely filled NT SE application form 2020 along with the
application fee (if any) before the last date. T he last date for form submission will vary from state to state. T o know more

NCERT conducts NT SE exam every year in two stages – Stage 1 is held at state level by the SCERT while stage 2 is
conducted at national level by NCERT for candidates who qualify stage 1. Stage 1 is usually conducted on the first Saturday
and Sunday of November thus, it is expected to be conducted on November 2 and 3, 2019. Stage 2 will be conducted in the
month of May 2020.

NTSE Application Form 2020 – Points to remember


Application form of NT SE 2020 will be made available by States/UT s in the online mode. It can also be collected from the
state liaison officer.
NT SE 2020 is a one-step application process. Candidates need not apply for stage 2 exam.
T he NT SE 2020 application fee (if applicable in the state) needs to be deposited along with the form.
Steps to f ill NT SE Application Form 2020
Candidates can obtain, fill and submit the NT SE application form online or offline by following the steps listed below:
Obtain Application Form – Download the NT SE registration form 2020 from the official website or one can also collect it
from the liaison officer of the state.
Filling up the application f orm – Candidates need to fill up the application form in their own handwriting as per the
instructions and affix their recent photograph along with signature at the space provided. Candidates will be required to enter
the following details in the NT SE 2020 application form:
1. Candidate’s name
2. Mother's name
3. Father's name
4. Caste category
5. Postal address etc.
Payment of application f ee – Candidates are required to remit the NT SE application fee (if specified by the state/UT ).
Application f orm submission – T he NT SE application form 2020 needs to be submitted in offline/online mode as specified.
From last year, some states have started to accept the completed NT SE application form 2020 in the online mode too.
Candidates must ensure that the application form of NT SE is filled and attached with required documents as per the
instructions.

Along with the application form, candidates are required to attach the documents listed below. All the documents should be
duly attested by the Principal of the School.

NT SE 2020 Exam Centres
Candidates have to fill their exam centre preferences in the application form. T he exam authority will allot the nearest
examination centre to the candidate. T he complete address of the examination venue will be mentioned on the NT SE admit
card 2020 which will be released in the second week of October, 2019.
NT SE 2020 Reservation Criteria
NCERT will award the NT SE scholarships 2020 on the basis of certain reservation criteria which is provided below. Candidates
will be required to mention their category and attach a copy of certificate (in case of reserved category only) in the NT SE

Q: When can I get NT SE application form?
A: T he application form will be released online on the official website of the SCERT . In case it is released offline, you can
collect it from your school officials or the state liaison officer. Every state/UT releases its own application form in the month
of August/ September.
Q: What is the mode of NT SE registration?
A: T ill 2018, the only mode of registration was offline. However, some states have gone online while filling the NT SE 2020
application form.

A: T o apply for NT SE Scholarship Exam, students have to download the print copy of the application form from the SCERT
website and submit the form to the school officials or they can also send the filled application to the address of state’s liaison
officer.
Q: What is the NT SE application fee?
A: T he application fees is decided by the respective State Liaison Officer and is mentioned in the NT SE application form 2020.
Different states have a different application fee. Some states like Delhi do not have any NT SE application fee.
Q: What is the NT SE Application 2020 last date?
A: T he last date to submit the complete application form of NT SE 2020 varies from state to state.
Q. Do I need to apply for NT SE 2020 stage II also?
A. No, NT SE application is a one-time process. You need to apply only for stage I. Only if you qualify stage 1 exam will you be
able to appear for NT SE stage 2.

Pattern
NCERT has conducted National T alent Search Examination (NT SE) 2019 stage II exam on June 16, 2019. NT SE 2019 was
held in offline mode i.e. Pen-Paper mode for both levels i.e. State level examination (T ier I) and National level examination
(T ier II). T he scholarship exam by NCERT comprises two papers i.e. Mental Ability T est (MAT ) and Scholastic Aptitude T est
(SAT ). Both MAT and SAT papers of NT SE 2019 is conducted on the same day but, in two different shifts i.e. Morning shift
from 9:30 am to 11:30 am for MAT and Evening shift from 01:30 pm to 03:30 pm for SAT paper. T he exams are conducted
at allotted exam centres only as listed by states/UT s for state level exam and NCERT for NT SE 2019 Stage II exam. T he
candidates have to appear for the exam with their valid admit card as issued by the exam conducting authority. T he NT SE
2019 syllabus level is of Class 9th and Class 10th only. T here is no syllabus separately prescribed for NT SE 2019 state level or
national level examination. T he difficulty level of NT SE papers is of moderate level.

Features of NTSE Exam Pattern –


Exam mode – Pen-paper based test (answers to be marked on OMR sheets)
Exam Medium – T he language/medium of instructions and questions will be of candidates’ choice from the language
options provided by the exam conducting body for State level examination. For the state level, the test medium can be
the official regional language and English/Hindi. For NT SE national level examination, the test medium can be from Asamiya,
Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, T amil, T elugu and Urdu as selected by the
candidate at the time of application form submission.
T otal exam duration – 120 minutes for all candidates except visually challenged candidates who are provided 150 minutes
for all papers.
Questions type – All the papers of NT SE state level and national level exams are based on objective type question with
multiple choices.

T he syllabus of National T alent Search Examination (NT SE) 2019 is broadly based on Class 9th and Class 10th only. T here will
be objective type questions for both papers i.e. Mental Ability T est and Scholastic Aptitude T est (SAT ) on relevant topics.
T he Scholastic Aptitude T est (SAT ) is based on questions from Social science, Science and Mathematics subjects.
T he MAT paper will be based on questions for verbal and non-verbal abilities such as reasoning and critical thinking. Also, the

topics will include analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, hidden figure etc.
For NT SE T ier 2 examination, the question papers will be based on the CBSE Class 10th Syllabus for the subjects.

Admit Card
NT SE admit card 2019 for stage II exam was available from May 16, 2019 onwards. T he admit card of NT SE stage II
exam was delayed as the exam date has been postopned by NCERT . Earlier, the exam date for NT SE 2019 stage 2 was May
12, but due to Loksabha Election 2019 being organised in May, the exam date was changed to June 16, 2019. Candidates
appearing for Stage II exam of NT SE needed to download their admit card from the official website by providing State Roll
Number and Date of Birth.
T he admit card for NT SE stage II can be obtained by downloading from the official website only. NCERT does not send any
admit card for stage II exam by post or on e-mail address.

Instructions for NTSE Admit Card 2019
T he admit card of NT SE 2019 is the roll number mentioning your application number, candidates details, exam date and
exam centre details for papers like centre name, address, exam shift, timings etc.
Candidates must keep an extra copy of their admit card for NT SE 2019, to avoid any last minute rush in case of loss.
Candidates are advised to carry admit card and a photo Id proof along with it at the exam centre on the exam day.
For any discrepancy regarding spelling errors in candidates Name, Father's name, Category, their residential address is found
on NT SE 2019 stage II admit card then candidates can report to the Liaison officer of the respective state/UT for getting it

NT SE Answer Keys 2019 for stage 2 will be released by June 18-20, 2019 (tentatively). T he answer key for NT SE 2019 stage I
exam were released by each state/UT within 5 days after conducting the examination from November 03, 04 and 18, 2018.
NT SE official Answer Key 2019 mentions correct responses for both papers of stage 1 exam. Each state/UT is releasing
NT SE answer key 2018 on provisional basis so that candidates who appeared for state level NT SE 2019 can cross-verify their
responses. T he candidates can also raise objection on provisional NT SE answer key 2019 within the time and pattern as
specified by each state/UT . T he answer key is available for both NT SE question papers 2019 i.e. Mental Ability T est and
Scholastic Ability T est, which conducted on the same day in different shifts.
Moreover, in case of any objection regarding the answer key, it will be revised/corrected by the States/UT s after reviewing

NT SE results 2019 are prepared on basis of final answer keys, and exam authorities for states/UT s accepts no request for
re-evaluation of result under any circumstance. T he NT SE official answer Key is available from the official links provided in the
table above. Candidates can also download NT SE question papers 2019 for MAT and SAT from the official website if they do
not have it with them.
Moreover, the form for filing objections on NT SE answer key 2019 is also available in pdf format. Candidates can download
this form to send objections regarding the answer key mentioning paper code/name, subject, question number and proof
supporting their objection on provisional answer key.
Candidates can check NT SE exam pattern and marking scheme while cross-verifying their responses for NT SE paper
analysis.

Results
:
NT SE Results 2019: National Council of Education Research and T raining (NCERT ) will declare NT SE 2019 Stage II result in
September 2019 in the online mode. Candidates who appeared for NT SE exam on June 16, can check their results on the
official webiste of NCERT . Also, merit lists of Stage II qualified candidates for each category will be declared by NCERT . A
total of 2000 NT SE scholarships will be awarded by NCERT from this year.

NTSE Stage II exam result 2019


T he NT SE Stage II result will be based on combined scores of MAT and SAT . T he candidates who will qualify the stage 2 of
scholarship exam by NT SE will be informed separately through registered letter and, also the NT SE stage 2 exam results will
be available online.
T he candidates will also be provided the provisional result of NT SE 2019 stage 2 examination, scanned copies of their OMR
sheets for both papers. T he candidates will be able to check their NT SE stage 2 result through the link provided by NCERT
and they need to enter their roll numbers and date of birth to login. T he result will mention separate scores as well as the
combined score for MAT and SAT paper.
T he merit list of NT SE stage II will mention candidates' name, their father' name and roll number. It will not mention scores
or ranks for stage II exam of NT SE.
T he result of NT SE stage 2 exam will be processed in online mode only and NCERT is making sure that there is no
discrepancy in processing the results. T herefore, NCERT will not be considering any request for re-checking/re-evaluating the
results if any candidate finds any inaccuracy in the scoring of NT SE stage 2 exam.

T he NT SE stage I exam result 2019 are available in form of merit list, mentioning names, marks, ranks of all qualified
candidates for the respective state/UT . T he candidates scoring minimum qualifying marks in both papers separately are
considered qualified and eligible for NT SE T ier II exam 2018-2019 as conducted by NCERT .
T he candidates whose name is mentioned in the merit list of NT SE 2019 Stage I exam prepared as per the result, can appear
for the national level examination of NT SE 2019 stage II examination.

Key points about NTSE Stage I exam result 2019:


T he results of NT SE 2019 tier 1 exam announced by each state/UT separately by February 2019.
T he state level examination of NT SE 2019 is an eligibility test to shortlist candidates for national level examination of NT SE
to be conducted by NCERT .
T he scores of NT SE Stage I exam will not be added to the result of NT SE Stage II exam by NCERT .
If candidates seek to cross-verify their NT SE Stage I exam result then, they needed to contact the respective state/UT for it,
not send their concerns to NCERT .
