1. Air at 20 C and at a pressure of 1 bar is flowing over a flat plat at a velocity of 3 m/s. If the plate is
280 mm wide and at 56o C, calculate the following quantities at x=280 mm. Given properties of air
at bulk mean temperature are ρ = 1.1374 kg/m3, k=0.02732 W/m K, Cp= 1.005 kJ/kg K, ν = 16.768x
10-6 m2/s, Pr =0.7. Find (i) Reynolds no.(ii) Boundary layer thickness (iii) local friction co-efficient
(iv) Avg. convective heat transfer coefficient.
2. A 50cm x 50cm Copper slab 6.25 mm thick has a uniform temperature of 300o C. Its temperature is
suddenly lowered to 36o C. Calculate the time required for the plate to reach the temperature 108o C.
Take ρ= 9000 kg/m3, Cp= 0.38 kJ/kg K, k=370 W/m K and h=90 W/m2 K.
