technical support.
1. Required configuration
2. Operating systems
Warning:
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows NT Workstation are no
longer supported.
Important note :
You must be logged in as administrator.
The software installation procedure runs automatically. Before inserting the FLUX
"Installation" CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, we advise you to close all
the applications in use.
If the CD-ROM drive autoplay function is active, the setup automatically starts
as soon as you insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If this function is not
active, you will have to open Windows Explorer, then click on the CD-ROM
drive icon and run the executable file CedratSetup.exe to start the setup.
Note :
FLUX Version 9.3.1 will be installed into the directory
C:\Cedrat\Flux_9.3.1 if the selected directory is C:\Cedrat.
If you want to install FLUX in another directory, then click on the Change
button in the Flux 9.3.1 - InstallShield Wizard window. Make
sure that the full directory path does not include any spaces or special
characters (e.g. Installing Flux to c:\Program Files\Cedrat will cause Flux to
fail).
4. If you have the "FLUX to Simulink" license and MATLAB Version 6.1 or higher
version, then you will be able to install the coupling between FLUX 2D and
MATLAB/Simulink.
In the Flux 9.3.1 - InstallShield Wizard window, select :
Yes, the first two conditions are respected and I want
to update MATLAB to use this technology.
This protection system of FLUX consists of a license file, and possibly a hardware
key and a software component. The installation of this protection system is
described in the following sections.
We supply separate Flexnet components for 32-bit and 64-bit platforms; they will be
stored in directories which names will end in _win32 or _win64. In the rest of this
document, we will use the single notation _win(arch) to refer to them.
For example:
If you are using a 64-bit platform, and we mention components stored into
directory
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)
you will actually find them into directory
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win64
In the case where a hardware key is supplied, before any other installation task, the
key must be connected.
In this case, the last installation step is the license file installation. This file
("*.dat") has been supplied by email.
The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX as
described in sections 3.3 or 3.4.
In this case, you need to install the Flexnet license server software in addition to the
license file. Follow the instructions below.
If a key is provided:
The key drivers are installed by default with the installation of the Flexnet
license server.
Warning:
The instructions below describe the simple installation of a Flexnet server in
order to manage the FLUX software. If you already have one or more
Flexlm/Flexnet servers running on this server and if you wish setting up a
more complex configuration, please refer to the Flexnet v10.8 Licensing User
Guide and to your own procedures if there are any. The Flexnet v10.8
Licensing User Guide is shipped with FLUX 9.3.1. You can contact our
Support Team if you need help with this configuration.
We use Flexnet version 10.8 for the license management. It is supplied on the
FLUX "Installation" CD.
If you install three redundant servers, repeat these instructions (until section 3.2.2.6
included) for each of servers.
If you want to install the Flexnet 10.8 license server in another directory,
then click on the Change button in the Flexnet server (arch)
10.8 - InstallShield Wizard window.
The name of the computer used as a license server has to be inserted in the license
file. To find it you can use the following method:
The computer name is then displayed in the Full computer name field.
If you are upgrading FLUX from a previous version 9, you must read the important
note below.
2. Replace the text my_server in the SERVER line (first line) with the
computer name (In the case of 3 redundant servers, you will have to deal
with 3 SERVER lines).
For example, the computer name is cedratdemo:
Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.
To customize the license server, from the Flexnet installation directory (by default:
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)), you have to:
1. Run lmtools.exe.
4. Set:
- the full lmgrd program name, for example:
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)\lmgrd.exe
- the full license file name, for example:
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)\license.dat
- the full debug file name, for example:
C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)\debug.log.
At the time of the first installation, this file does not exist: you have to
enter its name manually.
This file is required for efficient support.
To start the license server, in the LMTOOLS window, you have to:
1. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
2. Click on the Start Server button.
3. You can verify that the server start succeeded selecting the Server
Status tab, and clicking on the Perform Status Enquiry button.
First case: FLUX is installed on the license server computer, you have to:
The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX, as
described in sections 3.3 or 3.4.
1- Case where the license server function is managed by only one server
• If the license file is in a shared directory of the license server computer, the
file is accessible from the PC on which you have installed FLUX; just
follow the steps of the previous section.
The parameter: 'port', is the fourth entry of the SERVER line (first line)
of the license file ; for example, if the SERVER line is:
SERVER cedratdemo 12345789 1723
if the SERVER line only contains three entries (this happens frequently)
then you will enter only:
@cedratdemo
The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX, as
described in sections 3.3 or 3.4.
port1@host1,port2@host2,port3@host3
then the parameters ‘port1’, ‘port2’, ‘port3’ will be set to 27001; if the
3 server names are cedratdemo1, cedratdemo2, and
cedratdemo3, you will enter:
27001@cedratdemo1,27001@cedratdemo2,27001@cedratdemo3
The installation of the protection system is completed, you can now test FLUX, as
described in sections 3.3 or 3.4.
The size of the Flexnet server log file can greatly increase, according to the number
of requests it receives. In order to limit this size, you can use the command
• on Windows:
lmutil lmswitch
• on Unix/Linux:
lmswitch
Please refer to the Flexnet v10.8 Licensing User Guide for the usage of this
command.
The FLUX supervisor window is then displayed and you will have to select the
Flux2D tab.
If several windows open, with various menus and icons displayed on the top of the
screen, then the FLUX 2D Applications is working correctly.
The FLUX supervisor window is then displayed and you will have to select the
Flux3D tab.
If several windows open, with various menus and icons displayed on the top of the
screen, then the FLUX 3D Applications is working correctly.
To install the FLUX 9.3 documentation and examples, you have to:
5. Run the executable file setup.exe to install the FLUX 9.3 documentation and
examples.
Moreover, by default, the FLUX 9.3 documentation and examples are installed
in the directory C:\Cedrat\Flux_9.3_Doc_examples.
If you want to install the FLUX 9.3 documentation and examples in another
directory, then click on the Change button.

FLUX 9.3.1 is shipped with the Flexnet v10.8 protection system. Flexnet is the new
commercial name for the legacy system which was called Flexlm.
When upgrading FLUX to version 9.3.1, if you are running a Flexlm server,
upgrading to Flexnet v10.8 is compulsory. Be sure that FLUX is stopped on every
computer, shut down your Flexlm server, then install the Flexnet server according to
the instructions in section 3.2.2.
This section is to be used if you received a new license file in the following cases:
- FLUX upgrade from a previous version to version 9
- new application purchase, lease,…
6. Rename the new license file with the same name as the old license file.
8. Replace the text my_server of the SERVER line (first line) with the
computer name (In the case of 3 redundant servers, you will have to deal
with 3 SERVER lines).
For example, the computer name is cedratdemo:
Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.
1. If you are using a license server and if it is still active, stop it with the
Flexnet license management tool lmtools.exe (by default, it is placed in
the directory C:\Cedrat\FlexnetServer_10.8_win(arch)).
2. Move the protection key to the new computer.
3. Install the protection system on this computer following the instructions in
section 3.2.
In this case, FLUX is installed on a Windows PC and the Flexnet license server is

The installation and configuration of each program can be accomplished by
following the steps below:
With FLUX 9.3.1, we ship the Flexnet v10.8 servers for the following operating
systems:
- HP-UX 11.11, HP-UX 11.i ...
- Solaris 7
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 for i386 architecture
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 for x86_64 architecture
In the following examples, we will assume that the Flexnet_10.8 directory has
been stored into directory /usr/local/cedrat.
After having installed the license server files, copy the license file that we supplied
into the directory:
Flexnet_10.8/etc
For example: /usr/local/cedrat/Flexnet_10.8/etc/license.dat
You must insert the license server hostname into the file
/usr/local/cedrat/Flexlnet_10.8/etc/license.dat. It will replace the second
entry in the SERVER line, whereas the third entry is the identification number you
supplied to us.
You can run commands such as hostname or uname -n to get the server
hostname. For example, if the hostname command yields my_server, the
SERVER line in the license.dat file will look like:
SERVER my_server 6664A7C98
Important:
Any other modification of the license file will invalidate it.
Note:
If you are using Korn-shell, do not insert nohup at the beginning of the line.
The lmgrd.log file contains Flexnet diagnostic messages. You can examine it
to monitor the license server operation.
You will find detailed instructions about setting up this boot configuration in the
chapter:
Starting the License Server Manager on UNIX Platforms
in the Flexnet v10.8 Licensing User Guide.
• In order to connect FLUX to the license server, use the syntax port@host as
described in section 3.2.2.7.
With FLUX 9.3.1, the latest version of Flexnet server, version 10.8, is supplied. Its
installation is compulsory.
In order to install and configure Flexnet server 10.8: be sure that FLUX is stopped
on every workstation; then shutdown the Flexlm server, and read section 7.1.1.
Warning:
The instructions describe the simple installation of a Flexnet server in order
to manage the FLUX software.
