1.1 INTRODUCTION
The U.T. of Puducherry comprising Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, runs six
government and four government aided society colleges that are situated in both, urban and
rural locations. Together, in one academic year, they admit 4718 students to 28 different
courses leading to three year B.A. , B.Sc., B.Com., B.B.A. and B.C.A. degrees. All the
courses are affiliated to Pondicherry University and have been accredited by NAAC. These
colleges aim to reach out to diverse sections of the society to provide equal opportunities for
education and offer an excellent platform for the students to strive towards rewarding
experiences and opportunities.
Admission to Arts and Science Colleges is made in TWO modes as below:
1. Regular Mode - Direct Entry based on H.Sc.(+2) or its equivalent Qualification with
additional eligibility conditions where applicable (3 years)
2. Lateral Entry Mode - to 2nd Year based on Diploma in Polytechnic as Qualification with
additional eligibility conditions where applicable (2 years) - Number of vacancies might be
subject to change.
Medium of Instruction:
Candidates will have to write the University Examinations in the medium of instruction in

1.4.2 LATERAL ENTRY STREAM
B.Com., B.Com (Co-operative Management), B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship) and

B.Com. (ForeignTrade)
Candidates who have passed Diploma in Commerce or Diploma in Modern Office

Practice (Three Years Course) awarded by the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of
Tamil Nadu or other states shall be admitted to second year of the above mentioned courses,
subject to the availability of seats purely on merit up to 10% of the sanctioned strength in the
course. However, the total strength should not exceed the sanctioned strength.
B.C.A. and B.Sc. Computer Science
Candidates who have passed Diploma in Computer Science / Information Technology /

Computer Technology / Computer Application in First Class (10+3 years of study) as
mentioned in the Degree / Provisional certificate are eligible to apply for lateral entry to the
second year of the above mentioned courses, subject to the availability of the seats but limited
to 10% of the sanctioned strength in each course. However, the total strength should not exceed
the sanctioned strength in each course.
B.B.A. (Tourism)
Candidates who have passed Diploma in any field of study II class (10+3 years of study)
are eligible to apply for lateral entry to the second year of the course subject to availability of
seats, but limited to 10% of the sanctioned intake.

1.5. SELECTION PROCEDURE
1.5.1.REGULAR STREAM
1.5.1.1. PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING THE MERIT SCORE
Selection of Candidates for admission to all the Degree courses will be based on the
Merit list prepared by CENTAC, based on the following method:
The highest mark obtained in any ONE language paper (English, Tamil, Hindi,
Malayalam, Telugu, Arabic or French) and the marks of the best three main papers
irrespective of the board of examination will be taken into consideration to arrive at the
aggregate percentage.
Suppose the candidate has secured the following marks in their board examination,
English - 190
Language - 152 (Tamil / Hindi / Malayalam / Telugu / Arabic /
French )
Physics - 179
Chemistry - 177
Mathematics - 180
Biology - 167
Then, the highest score in languages is English and best three marks in main papers are
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. So the aggregate percentage is arrived as
follows:
Aggregate Percentage = ((English + Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics) /800) * 100
= ((190 + 179 + 177 + 180 ) /800) * 100
= (726 / 800 ) * 100 = 90.75 %

1.5.2. LATERAL ENTRY STREAM
The selection of the candidate shall only be based on the marks obtained in the
SECOND YEAR AND THIRD YEAR EXAMINATIONS (4 semesters) in the
Diploma course.
 The aggregate in percentage of the subjects of qualifying examinations (4 semesters) of

Diploma shall be the basis for merit.
 In the event of this also being the same, the total percentage of marks obtained in
S.S.L.C/H.Sc. or equivalent examination shall be the basis for ascertaining the merit.
 Date of birth of higher age.

2. UNDER GRADUATE

2.1 INTRODUCTION
Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, a multi-art complex consists of three faculties viz.,

Music/Dance/Visual Arts was established in the year 1987 to commemorate the Birth Centenary of
the Poet Subramania Bharathi. It is governed by the members of the Governing Body.
The Object of Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam is to carry out the propagation of Art & Culture
and to establish a memorial in Puducherry to the Poet Subramaniya Bharathi. The Institution
functions with three departments’ viz., Music, Dance and Visual Arts. Training in Vocal, Veena,
Violin, Mrudhangam in Music Department, Bharathanatyam and Mohiniattam in Dance Department,
Drawing, Painting, Textile Design, Visual Communication Design, and Sculpture in Fine Arts
Department with allied subjects like Photography, Print Making, Computer Graphics, in the degree
level is being given by renowned experts in each subject.
The Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam is a Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act,
1860, affiliated to Pondicherry University and is funded and sponsored by the Govt. of Puducherry.
The object is to promote and train with discipline and devotion the younger generation in
South Indian Art and Culture.
On completion of their course, the students will become professionals, exposed to several
opportunities in Govt. and private concerns and become eminent artist to establish their own
concerns in Dance, Music, and Fine Arts.
Admission to Fine Arts Courses is made in TWO modes as below:

Bharathanatiyam can be admitted directly in the II year B.P.A Dance Degree Course.
2.5.1. REGULAR STREAM

BVA Degree Courses: There will be an Entrance test in General Knowledge on History of Arts
subject. Besides, Practical aptitude test will be conducted on Painting, Drawing, Sculpture and Applied
Art to the students for which applications are made. The selection will be made on the basis of the
marks scored in the Entrance/Aptitude tests and the marks scored in the entry level qualifying
examination (60 % for the Entrance / Aptitude Test and 40% for the qualifying examination).
BPA Degree Courses (Music): A Practical aptitude test will be conducted on Vocal, Veena,
Violin and Mrudhangam to the students for which applications are made. The selection will be made on
the basis of the marks scored in the Aptitude tests and the marks scored in the entry level qualifying

3.1 INTRODUCTION
Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College of Education, Karaikal is a co-education
institution established by the Government of Puducherry in 2001 run by PONSHE, a
Society, (Recognized by NCTE / SCERT, affiliated to Pondicherry University and
accredited with ‘A’’Grade by NAAC) is offering two year B.Ed. & D.El.Ed. courses.
The District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), Puducherry is a co-

guidance of MHRD, New Delhi is offering two year D.El.Ed.

4.1 INTRODUCTION
The National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology (NCHMCT)
(Sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India), Noida is the regulatory body for running
Hospitality and Hotel Management Courses in this Institute. The standardized course
curricula prescribed by the Council is followed. The courses help the students to emerge as
professionally qualified personnel for hospitality and other allied service sectors. Degree and

every year. After JEE 2019, residual vacancies of seats, if any, will be considered as per
aggregate marks obtained in HSc/qualifying Examination*.

HSc/qualifying Examination *.
* Selection of Candidates for admission to all the Degree / Diploma courses will be
based on the Merit list prepared by CENTAC, based on the following method:
The highest mark obtained in any ONE language paper (English, Tamil, Hindi,
Malayalam, Telugu, Arabic or French) and the marks of the best three main papers
irrespective of the board of examination will be taken into consideration to arrive at the
aggregate percentage.
Suppose the candidate has secured the following marks in their board examination,

Then, the highest score in languages is English and best three marks in main papers are

= ((190 + 179 + 177 + 180 ) /800) * 100
= (726 / 800) * 100 = 90.75 %
