WORK EXPERIENCE

We were given the opportunity to experience how architecture works at the

professional level in the 8th Semester of our formal architectural education. I
am very grateful to Ar. Sandeep Shikre Sir for giving me the opportunity to work
in his firm Sandeep Shikre Architects as a trainee architect. The four months
(December 2018 – April 2019) that I worked in helped me broaden my
perspective about architecture. It gave me exposure to the professional world.
The variation in projects ranging from educational project to hospitality projects
and interior projects has helped me learn different aspects and details of
designing. Working with the architecture and interiors of the building has taught
me how to integrate both at a broader level.
The office has a very good working environment. All the members of the firm fill
the office with a positive vibes with their warm and friendly nature. Working
under the guidance of junior architects was a great experience as they were
extremely helpful and supported me at every step and helped me improve and
correct myself.
Following below is a short description of all the projects I worked on during my
internship period and the learnings from it.
PROJECTS WORKED ON

01.Marina Bay, Worli

Project Type: Residential

Status: On-going

This is a large-scale residential project and the site is located near Sasmira
institute of management in Worli, Dadar. It has a site area 7800sqm. I have
worked on the floor layouts, entrance gate design, building crest, sections,
elevations and presentation drawings of the project. An attempt was made to use
different materials to enhance the building elevation. 3D views were made in
order to get a better perception of how the building will look. I was also engaged
in the preparation of the presentation for the client meeting. I have worked on
different options for the floor plans. Detailed plans and section were made to
understand the working of each option module. The same could be implemented
in the rest of the rooms. I have worked on details of the staircase plans and
sections. I got an opportunity to attend the client and consultant meeting to
understand their requirements and point of views regarding this project. I got to
learn the mechanism of Infinity pool and have worked on its sections.

02 Orovia, Thane

Project Type: Residential

Status: On-going

Orovia - The land of prosperity is located at Waghbil Road, Off Ghodbunder

Road, Thane. I have worked on the master planning of this large-scale residential
project. This project consists of 4 towers, each consisting of 27 habitable floors
with Basement, Ground Podium, 1st Podium, Recreation floor at Stilt level. This
project is a Green building feature - IGBC Pre-certified Gold. I have worked on the
design of the elevation for the tower and its construction drawings. Nearly 55%
of this project has been constructed and its expected to be completed by 2020.
Project Type: Residential, Colaba

Status: On-going

This large scale residential project is located in a prominent cantonment area of

South Mumbai. The 3275sq.m site is surrounded by a good road connectivity
from all four sides of the site. The project is a G+42 high rise structures which
consists of 320 units. Each unit comprises of 55.6sq.m. excluding the balcony
provided. Each floor consists of 8 units and the task was to design efficient core
with ample of light, staircase and lifts. I was involved in the rendering of the
presentation plans using Photoshop for presentation to be discussed with client.

04 Piramal Aranya, Byculla

Project Type: Residential

Status: On-going

The site is located right next to Jija Mata Udyaan at Byculla and is a long stretch
of land. Every apartment is a living space that breathes and connects with its
surroundings. Light was a crucial element while designing the spaces. The floor-
to-ceiling window designs paint the room with natural sunlight to create a
bespoke living experience. The layouts have been planned to blend nature in all
its splendour, while the interiors are crafted keeping the refined tastes and love
for the finest in mind. The entire project was done in detail on Revit software. I
have worked on basement and podium plans detail.
05 Satellite Tower, Goregaon

Project Type: Residential

Status: On-going

The project is sited in one of the best locations so that the residents can enjoy
lively atmosphere of Mumbai city yet experience the lush green surroundings.
The project consists of 26 best designed floors in a single tower. Satellite Tower
is priced in the range of Rs. 2.05 Cr - 3.40 Cr for each unit. There are 100
elegantly crafted units in the tower. Offering all the basic as well as advanced
necessities, endowing in this project. The 2 BHK apartment unit areas are
ranging from 1150 sq. ft. to 1400 sq. ft. Also, 3 BHK units of size 1700 sq. ft. and
1800 sq. ft. which adds to the variety of units. I have contributed in designing
the Entrance Lobby Brand wall. I have also worked on ground floor and podium
plan. Using Photoshop and PowerPoint I have rendered the presentation plans
and prepared the presentation for client meeting.
LEARNING EXPERIENCE

The four-month internship at Sandeep Shikre Architects was a great learning.

Following are the key learnings of my internship period.

1. Office Management:
It has taught me a better idea of what all it takes to set up and run the firm
efficiently. I realized how smaller things like maintaining the telephone directory
of all the people we work with, database of all the work, etc. makes a big
difference in the functioning of the office.
2. Multi-tasking
The firm taught me the most important quality needed in any profession which is
multi-tasking. One should be able to handle all the work that is assigned to
him/her and get a balance in the work according to the time.
3. Co-ordinating
Co-ordinating with different vendors, ordering samples from them, negotiating
with them improved my communication skills and taught me how to get work
done from them. Co-ordinating with HVAC consultants, structural consultants
and contractors helped me understand all the factors related to architecture
simultaneously.
4. Organisation and Management
Having organised data in specific folders makes it easy to search for a particular
file and also makes it easy for other people to access the files. It is also very
important be organised at an individual level, to work in appropriate layers so
that it ensures discipline in the works.
5. Designing and Planning
There is much more to designing and planning than what I had thought of. While
working on the hospitality project, it made me realise however space and area is
important and cannot be ignored. A lot of thought has to be put in to make sure
you are giving justice to each and every area.
6. Technical Skills
It is very important to use the software that you are working on correctly and
efficiently. My skills in working with CAD and MS Excel have certainly improved.
It is also very important to make 3D views for every design to enable the client to
understand the design better.
