Denis Roger
Director European Synergies and Innovation (ESI), European Defence Agency

Since May 2014, Denis Roger is the director, european synergies and innovation (ESI) of the European
Defence Agency. The ESI directorate acts as an interface between ministries of defence and wider EU
policies, covering market & industry policies, innovative research, defence research preparatory action
and space. Before joining EDA, Roger worked in the department of the French Prime Minister as the
deputy head, international, strategic and technological affairs. He has held a range of international,
R&T or industry-oriented positions in DGA (the French Defence Procurement Agency), at the European
Commission, as the French Defence Equipment Attaché in Australia, as the dean of education and
research of a technology institute and for defence-related companies.

Ana Gomes
Member, European Parliament

Ana Gomes is a Member of the European Parliament since 2004. She was re-elected in June 2009 and
in May 2014 for a third term. In this mandate, she is a full member of the Committee on civil liberties,
justice and home affairs, and of the Subcommittee for security and defence, as well as full member
of the Delegation for the relations with the United States and the Delegation to the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean. Gomes has been rapporteur for Libya, Iraq, Saudi Arabia
and the PCA with Indonesia. Her academic background is in law. A career diplomat since 1980 serving
in the Portuguese missions at the UN in New York and Geneva, embassies in Tokyo and London, and as
head of the Portuguese interests section and then ambassador in Jakarta, she entered party politics in
2003.
