SUBJECT: WEAR PAD REPLACEMENT

When replacing wear pads on Telescopic
Boom Cranes, they will need to be altered/
adjusted for clearance to allow for minimal
resistance during extension and retraction of
the boom.
With the adjustable wear pads, allow 0.125"
clearance from top to bottom and from side
to side. With the non-adjustable pads, allow
0.030" clearance from wear pad to telescop-
ing boom.
When replacing the non-adjustable wear pads, it
may be necessary to remove the extension
boom from the main boom. The main boom
inside walls will need to be measured along the
wear pad path in several locations to determine
the narrowest dimension.
To establish how much (if any) material must be
removed from the new wear pads, perform the
following:

1. Measure the width of the extension boom

at the wear pad pocket.
2. Measure the wear pad thickness and add

this to the width of the extension boom.
3. Compare this to the narrowest width of the
main boom and remove material from the wear

pad via machining (milling) as required to allow TELESCOPING BOOM
0.030" clearance.
