Procedure - How to Bake a Cake Without an Oven

You don't have to possess an oven or a microwave to bake delicious cakes and other
pastries. Here are some alternative methods you can try:

1. Steps to Bake Your Cake on the Stove top

Let's take a look at how to bake a cake with the help of cooking utensils in your kitchen.
On your gas/electric stove, turn on the biggest burner (or smaller one if need be).

Place a cooking pot on the burner. Here, you can use either an aluminium or steel
cooking pot (e.g a dhokla maker) that is wide enough.

Pre-heat this pot for about 5 minutes.

Identify an utensil you can use as a baking mould. An aluminium or steel pot that is flat,
has a thick bottom and has a wide opening, is suitable. You can also use a saucepan
you no longer use as a cake mould.

Put the cake mould on a rack. You can use dhokla racks if you're using a dhokla
cooking pot. If you're using another type of cooking pot, just place a small plate upside
down at the center of your cooking pot.

Place the cake batter into the mould.

Put the mould on the rack or stand you had put in the cooking pot earlier.

Cover the pot with its lid and reduce the game on your stove to low.

Bake the cake on the reduced flame for about 35-40 minutes, or test by inserting a knife
into the cake, if it comes out clean then it's ready.

2. Steps to Bake Your Cake on Sand

Ingredients
200g baking flour
100g sugar
An egg
100g melted butter
50ml of milk
1 and 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
Added flavor of your liking (e.g vanilla)

Tools for baking the cake

A huge aluminium/steel cooking pot with a lid
Clean sand
A rack or metal bowl that can fit into the cooking pot
Foil
paper (optional)
Cake pan or metal plate

Steps
Prepare your baking tin by lining it with grease or parchment paper and dust with some
flour.

Gently pour the clean sand into the cooking pot, put a metal plate on it and pre-heat for
about 5 minutes.

In the meantime, beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until you achieve a creamy texture.
Add the egg too and continue beating; put the milk and flavor and continue to mix;
finally add sifted baking powder and flour. Put this batter into your baking tin.

Open the hot cooking pot carefully and put your cake pan on the hot rack. (It is
important to note that there should always be a separation between the cake pan and
the sand; or your cake will be burnt).

Cover the cooking pot once more and leave to bake well for around 5 minutes on
medium- high heat, then reduce the heat to low and allow the cake to bake for 15-30
minutes.

After 15 minutes, open the pot carefully and check the 'doneness' of the cake using a
skewer; if the skewer comes out clean the cake is ready, if not let it bake for another 5
minutes and check.
When the cake is ready, take it out of the hot cooking pot a d let it cool for some 10
minutes before flipping it over on a cake rack or plate. You can now serve it and enjoy!

Always remember to be careful when using either of the 2 methods
