1. Purpose

This method statement covers the installation of Electrical and Low


Current conduits within concrete pours.

2. Scope of Works

2.1 Installation of embedded PVC conduits & Boxes in walls,


columns, cores and slabs during the concrete construction of the
building.

3. Responsible Personnel :-

3.1 Q.C. Engineer (following the job from start up till passing the
inspection request).

4. Documents :

The following documents are to be the site engineer references during the embedded
conduit system installation. They will be at as close as possible to the work
location(s) and ready to be checked by the Engineer Representative and /or the
Principle Contractor representative at any time through the installation process :

4.1 Technical specifications

4.2 Approved technical submittals

4.3 Manufacturer installation Instructions

5. Preparation For Installation


The construction team will carry out the following
5.1 Areas ready for installation shall be boarded on workshop drawings, routings of
embedded conduits and location of pull, junction and outlet boxes shall be marked
up.

5.2 Area of installation shall be checked to ensure proper conditions.

5.3 Conduits shall be checked for square end cut, remove any burrs, sharp edjes, all damp,
grease, cement and dust from both inside and outside of the pipe. Using of damaged
conduits is not permitted.

5.4 Principle contractor shall provide the required information for thickness of plastering,
finishing to ensure accurate fixing depth of the outlet boxes, junction and pull boxes.

5.5 Coordination with other embeded activities, if any, shall be checked through the approved
coordination drawings

6. Installation – Method:
The construction team will carry out the following:-
6.1 Locations of boxes shall be marked on concrete form shuttering

6.2 Allocate boxes to the form work as marked on drawings, and it will be fixed to form
work properly

6.3 Conduits shall be fixed to the re-bar mat using steel wires at regular distances not
greater than 200 mm

6.4 Bonding & Jointing

Fix the conduit into the boxes, fittings and adaptors using solvent welding as
Followings:

6.4.1 Ensure products is free from dirt, grease and moisture


6.4.2 The conduit into the full length of the box socket or fittings (for adjustment)

6.4.3 Immediately push the conduit together with box or fittings to the full depth
Without twisting. Hold in place for 30

6.5 Bending
Cold bending of conduits up to 32 mm diameter shall be done

6.5.1 Proper size spring shall be used .


6.5.2 After inserting the spring , the bend can be made by hand by bending
slightly beyond the required angle and allowing the conduit to recover
back to the required position.

6.5.3 Once the bend is made , it should not be forced backwards

6.5.4 The bend inner radius shall be not less than 4 time the conduit outside

6.5.5 For conduits sized > 32 mm, hot bending shall be applied.

6.5.6 Once the conduit by using indirect heating heater, bend to the required
angle around a suitable former and hold there till it cools back then set in
position.

6.5.7 For empty raceways over 3m long the construction team will install pull
rap within the raceway.

6.5.8 Boxes and open ends of conduits shall be plugged to protect from damage
during concrete pouring
6.5.9 The construction will use a grinder machine for embedded conduits in
walls.

7. SAFETY AND ENVIROMENTAL CONSIDERATION


7.1 Electrical Site Engineer will ensure operative are abiding to the NAI safety
procedures applicable to clothing and foot-wear.

7.2 Electrical Site Engineer will ensure only suitable approved equipment tools
and materials are used.

7.3 All tradesmen to ensue they leave the area clean and tidy and free of rubbish.
