Dream

What is the American Dream?

The American Dream is the belief that anyone can live freely, and equally with all other
people in the USA, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into,
can attain their own version of success in a society where advancement is possible for
everyone. The American Dream is achieved through sacrifice, risk-taking, and hard work,
rather than by chance or luck.

Is it achievable and if so how?

The American Dream is definitely achievable if you work hard and take more risks. This has
been proven by a celebrity known as Arnold Schwarzenegger. For many people Arnold
Schwarzenegger is a living embodiment of the American dream. He was born in the small
town of Thal, near Graz, Austria on July 30, 1947, in a house that had no plumbing or phone.
At the age of 21 he arrived in the US speaking little English and with only his bulging biceps
to declare. A year later he was a millionaire, having invested money from winning
bodybuilding contests in a business selling equipment for his sport. He won the Mr Universe
title four times and, when he wasn’t training six hours a day, studied business and acting and
worked on refining his accent. In the 1980s and 1990s, as Hollywood focused on all-action
blockbusters the Hummer-driving, cigar-chomping Schwarzenegger became one of its
biggest and highest paid stars. This is living proof that the American Dream is definitely
achievable.

What is the Chinese Dream?

Seven years ago, Xi Jinping articulated a vision for the nation's future which he named the
Chinese Dream. The Chinese dream was merely an imitation of the American Dream. The
Chinese Dream integrates national and personal aspirations, with the twin goals of
reclaiming national pride and achieving personal well-being. The ultimate goal for this dream
is to turn China into a global superpower, which requires sustained economic growth,
expanded equality and an infusion of cultural values to balance materialism.

Is it achievable and if so how?

The Chinese dream is achievable to some extent and to some people. The Chinese dream
has improved the lives of millions and put China on the path to superpower status, even
though he first espoused it just five years ago. I noted that, under Xi, corruption is in retreat,
the country is churning out billionaires and the people have found a new patriotic pride. Xi’s
Chinese dream is anchored in patriotism and socialism with Chinese characteristics for a
new era. It has achieved much for China but, unlike the American dream, it is tailored mostly
for Chinese. To achieve this dream, the government of China have to supply their country
with enough resources and opportunities.

What is my Dream?
My dream is to live a healthy life, graduate from university, get a job that I enjoy and to have
a happy family, a mother, a father, a sister and a loyal hound. Achieving this dream will not
be easy at all. I am obviously studying in school right now and can not afford to give up even
if I fail. However, I know that in order to pursue my dream, I will face failure which is normal.

Is it achievable and if so how?

In order for myself to achieve this dream, I will continue to study hard, despite all the
challenges that is to come. Even though it will take a lot of time, I am willing to spend it on
schooling and getting my grades up so that I can get into a good university and thus, get a
job I enjoy yet pays well. Furthermore, I will keep going and not giving up as it is a significant
factor I need to be persistent on in order to reach my dream. This is because giving up would
stop me from taking another step further. Even though failures are bound to happen
throughout the process of achieving my dream, I can learn from my mistakes and make sure
I will not do the same thing again. If Arnold Schwarzenegger can achieve the impossible, I’m
sure that I can achieve my dream.
