General Instructions:
(a) All questions are compulsory.
(b) Section A: Q.no. 1 to 5 are very short answer questions and carry 1 mark each.
(c) Section B: Q.no. 6 to 12 are short answer questions and carry 2 marks each.
(d) Section C: Q.no. 13 to 24 are also short answer questions and carry 3 marks each.
(e) Section D: Q.no. 25 to 27 are long answer questions and carry 5 marks each.
(f) There is no overall choice. However an internal choice has been provided in two
questions of
one mark, two questions of two marks, four questions of three marks and all the three
questions
of five marks weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
(g) Use of log tables if necessary, use of calculators is not allowed.

(b) 3 gram of H2 reacts with 29 grams of O2 to yield H2O. Which substance is the limiting
reagent and calculate the amount of water formed.
14. Explain Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle.
A golf ball has a mass of 40 gram and a speed of 45 m/sec. If the speed can be measured
with an accuracy of 2%, calculate the uncertainty in the position.

A photon of of wavelength 4 x 10-7 m strikes on a metal surface , the work function of metal
being 2.13 electron volt. Calculate:

Nitric oxide reacts with Br2 and gives nitrosyl bromide as the reaction given below
Br2(g) + 2NO(g) 2NOBr(g)
When 0.087 mole of NO and 0.0437 mole of Br2 are mixed in a closed container at constant
temperature 0.0518 mole of NOBr is obtained at equilibrium. Calculate equilibrium amount of
NO and Br2.

21. 0.45 gram of an organic compound gave 0.792 to gram of CO2 and 0.324 gram of H2O
on combustion. 0.24 gram of same substance was analysed by Kjeldahl method and the
ammonia formed was absorbed in 50 cm3 of M/8 H2SO4 . The excess acid require 77 cm3 of
M/10 NaOH for complete neutralization. Calculate the percent of carbon, nitrogen and
hydrogen in the compound.

24.(i) Draw Newman projection of conformation of ethane.
(ii) Why boiling point of of n-hexane is higher than 2-methylpentane?
(iii) Out of benzene. metadinitrobenzene and toluene which will undergo nitration most easily
and why?
25.(i) Give reason
a) It is not advisable to use sulphuric acid in place of acetic acid for acidification while testing
sulphur by lead acetate test.
b) Carbon tetrachloride does not give white ppt when heated with silver nitrate solution.
Explain.

iii) Show resonance in phenol.

i) Describe the chemistry of Lassaigne's test for the detection of nitrogen.
ii) What type of isomerism is shown between n-propyl bromide and isopropyl bromide?

(a)How will you convert:
(i) Benzene to acetophenone
(ii)Sodium Acetate to ethane
(iii) Ethyne to ethanal
(b) An alkene on ozonolysis gives propanone and 2 methylbutanal. Write the structural
formula and IUPAC name of alkene.
27. a) What do you mean by buffer solution? Write the mechanism of acidic buffer.

(b) Equilibrium constant Kc for the reaction N2(g) + 3H2(g) 2 NH3(g) at 500 K is 0.061.
At particular time the analysis shows that the composition of the reaction mixture is 3.0
moles/L N2, 2.0 moles/L H2 and 0.50 moles/L NH3. Is the reaction at equilibrium? If not, in
which direction the reaction tend to proceed to reach the equilibrium.
Or
The ionization constant of phenol is 1.0 x 10-10. What is the concentration of phente ion in
0.05M solution of phenol and pH of solution? What will be the degree of dissociation of
phenol if the solution is also 0.01M in sodium phenate?
