Abstract: Static Mixers, the motionless mixers which contain certain number of
static elements housed in a single tubular structure. By the use of static mixers, the
blending of Non-Newtonian fluids can be done in an improvised and energy
effective manner. The use of static mixers reduces power to a great extent. The
fluids taken for the pilot-scale study are pseudo plastic in nature, which find its
application mainly in the field of cosmetics industries. The use of static mixers
enables us to have the best handling of high viscous liquids and laminar mixing
with high efficiency. It uses pressure loss energy for the mixing of viscous fluids.
Hence, the pressure drop studies are carried out for different flow rates. The main
objective is the study of mixing performance and pressure drop in the designed
static mixer. The viscous fluids used here are starch and xanthan gum.
