Standard Copper Busbar (DIN 46433)

APPLICATION:
Busbar is the conductor for primary power in a system and provides the mechanical structure on which all components are
mounted.

Busbars, to DIN 46433
Tin plated copper busbars make contact position preparation easy. Flat busbars with components fitted have the following
current carrying capacities at 35oC ambient temperature and 65oC busbar temperature:

12x5(mm) - 200 A 12x10(mm) - 360 A

Current Capacity of Busbars

The higher current carrying capacities to DIN 43671 were
obtained under operating conditions. The busbar temperature is
normally positively influenced by mounting components on the
busbar and by air circulation within the installation.
If the ambient conditions change, a correction
factor can be derived from the diagram to the right.

It is possible to establish a correction factor k2, related to ambi-

ent temperature for flat busbars, in accordance with DIN 43671,
from the diagram to the right. This correction factor should be
taken into account when conditions change and loading is con-
tinuous.

Example: A 12 x 10 tin plated busbar can under normal condi-

tions be loaded with 360A. With a loading of 475A, for instance,
a correction factor k2 of 1.3 is necessary. It follows from the dia-
gram that with this factor and 35°C air temperature, the busbar
heats up to 85°C. Therefore, under this condition, components
with a withstand of 85°C or higher will need to be used.

Incoming Power Terminals

APPLICATION:
Incoming power terminals provide termination from the power input to the busbars. Terminals can also be utilized to sub-
feed to another busbar system in the same panel.

DESCRIPTION:
Universal Conductor Terminals

For connecting conductors with universal conductor terminals
cross-sections 1.5-120mm2 (16 AWG-250 kcmil) to busbars 5 or
10 mm thick. Installation is simplified by integral retaining
springs, open terminals and captive screws.

Component Adapters
APPLICATION:
Utilize Component Adapters to mount components to the BUSS® Bar System. Components can be mounted via DIN rail
provided with the adapter. Components typically mounted via an adapter:

• Control relays • Manual Motor Protectors

DESCRIPTION:
Component adapters are compatible with all cross sections of Bussmann busbar. 40mm adapters and 60mm adapters are
not interchangeable. 40mm adapters can only be used with 40mm busbar supports. 60mm adapters can only be used with
60mm busbar supports. Removal of small tabs on each adapter phase connection is required when installing on 10mm thick
busbar.

Busbar Supports
APPLICATION:
Busbar supports mount at both ends of the busbar. Additional supports may be needed to provide necessary bracing.
Bracing suggestions are shown below in the specifications. The busbar is then mounted to your panel via the busbar sup-
ports. The supports include an end-cover to provide isolation. Choose the support based on the number of poles in your
system.

Utilize Component Adapters to mount components to the Buss®Bar System. Components can be mounted via 35mm DIN
rail provided with the adapter. Components typically mounted via an adapter:

busbar.

Covers and accessories can improve the look and provide guarding in the 60mm system.
For covering on all 6 sides, select the components in this section.
For covering on 5 sides only (top, bottom, front, left, right), see the next catalog section.

DESCRIPTION:
Select the following to specify guarding on all sides:
• Back Cover provides covering on the back, top and bottom of the busbars. There are 2 widths: 230 and 290mm.
• Edge Section provides the mounting between the top and bottom of the Back Cover and the Front Cover. Select one
Top and one Bottom Section.
• Edge Section Support provides a mount for the Edge Sections and mounts on the Busbar Support.
• End Cover provides covering for the busbar ends and mounts on the Edge Section Support.
• Front Cover is used to cover unused busbars, and mounts to Front Cover Mounts that snap onto busbar.

System Shrouding Up To 630A • Materials silicon-free

• System shrouding:
3- and 4-pole shrouding arrangement for the 60mm UL Flammability: 94VO
system provides covering and offers additional insu-
lation between busbar system and mounting panel.
Ventilation slots in the sides allow heat dissipation.
By using a 3-pole system in the 290mm wide back
cover system shrouding can be used simultaneously
as a cable tray for the incoming and outgoing leads.

Compartment sections and reserve section covers UL Flammability: 94VO
provide guarding on five sides against direct acciden-
tal contact on 60mm busbar systems. The slotted

Mounting rails of adaptors and clip-on fixings generally

comply with DIN EN 50022.

The information contained in this document, unless specifi-

cally stated to the contrary, is valid for the recommended
mounting position and the ambient conditions defined in
DIN EN 60 439 part 1 (VDE 0660 part 500 or IEC 60 439-
1). Plant-specific reduction factors should be taken into
account in accordance with the exact conditions of use.
The stated maximum values apply for each product in
combination with other optimised components. Air and
creepage distances must comply with the requirements of
DIN VDE 0110-1 (HD 625.1 S1). With spacings of 12 mm
(.47") these requirements are automatically satisfied at
