On behalf of the German Association of the Automotive Industry
(VDA), I am happy to invite you to the VDA Automotive SYS®
Conference. I hope that you will be able to find time in June to
join us again for interesting talks and discussions, networking and
learning.
As you know, our industry is focusing on the significant challenges
raised by the digitalisation of automated and networked vehicles.
Digitalisation will further increase the importance of software and
systems engineering and their associated safety, security and quality
management activities.
With the valuable support of our programme committee composed
of experts from standardisation and industry, we have again set up
a mix of high quality workshops, keynotes and presentations.
The organisation team and all VDA QMC staff involved in the
conference will do their utmost to make this conference memorable
for you as an informative, innovative and valuable event.
I look forward to meeting you at the Automotive SYS® and am hoping
for good weather, so that we can enjoy the event in a beautiful rural

On behalf of the VDA Automotive SYS programme committee
I would like to welcome you to the 9th International Conference
on Quality, Safety and Security for Automotive Software-based
Systems. As in previous years, we have put together a programme
led by international experts in the field. The presentations, tutorials,
workshops, and panel discussions will provide you with unique
access to key and global automotive companies, represented by
thought leaders, who will share their insights with us.
This conference, hosted by the German Association of the Automotive
Industry (VDA), is a must for all software and system professionals
in the automotive industry. We are expecting an attendance of more
than 300 participants from over 20 countries. The fact that the confe-
rence has grown in size over the years underlines the importance of
the topics addressed. It is key for our industry to share our thoughts
on Quality, Safety and Security in order to build constantly improving
products in the future. On 26 - 28 June 2019, Potsdam is the place
to be.

Keynote Speakers

Joachim Langenwalter Dr. Stefaan Sonck Thiebaut

Director Automotive Software, NVIDIA CEO, OpenSynergy GmbH

Mr Joachim Langenwalter is responsible for NVIDIA software in all
automotive programs in Europe (AI Autonomous Driving, AI Cockpit,
Instrument Cluster and Infotainment).
He managed the Main Automotive Center in Europe (Munich
Subsidiary), having worked for over 25 years in automotive software,
hardware (EE Electrical/ Electronic), model-based development, tools
and processes.
He earlier worked in Mentor Graphics, Mathworks and Synopsys as
Director of Development, Sales, Marketing, Application Engineering
and Business Development.
Dr. Stefaan Sonck Thiebaut is CEO and co-founder of OpenSynergy,
a Berlin-based software company developing innovative platform and
connectivity solutions for the automotive industry. Stefaan has over
20 years of experience in embedded software development.
At the VW-subsidiary Carmeq, he influenced the architecture of the
AUTOSAR standard. At Real-Time Innovations he contributed to the
DDS real-time middleware. Stefaan is a robotics engineer and holds
a PhD from Stanford University.

Prof. Dr. Philip Koopman

Chief Technology Officer, Edge Case Research; and Associate
Professor, Carnegie Mellon University

Prof. Dr. Philip Koopman is an internationally recognized expert on

autonomous vehicle (AV) safety, who has worked in that area at
Carnegie Mellon University for over 20 years. He is also actively invol-
ved with AV safety policy, regulation, and standards. His pioneering
research work includes software robustness testing and run time
monitoring of autonomous systems to identify how they break and
how to fix them. He has extensive experience in software safety and
software quality across numerous transportation, industrial, and
defense application domains, including conventional automotive
software and hardware systems. He is co-founder of Edge Case
Research, which provides tools and services for autonomous vehicle
testing and safety validation.

Prior to the main conference, we are holding a workshop day sup-
ported by highly experienced trainers and experts. The content of the 09:00 - 10:00 Workshop registration
