MIKI CAMP SURVIVAL CHALLENGE! ACCEPTED! Total of 13 lecturers, 2 librarians, and 1 support staff trekked their way
through the jungle and stayed there for three days two nights. The journey began on the 5 February when all the staff gather at A.T.I.C to board our
ride to Kampung Kiau. The journey to Kampung Kiau takes roughly around 1 hour and 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu. After everyone had arrived, the
trekking began at 11 a.m. along with three guide; Sadib Miki, Suning Taradas, and Jimmy Ginsos. The journey took roughly 1 ½ hours to arrive at the
Miki Campsite. Not only we had to trek the jungle, but, we walked through rivers, hanging bridge, and fight our ways through the jungle with leeches.
After everyone had settled down, the lunch was serve. After lunch, the guide showed everyone around the camp, how the indigenous
people make traps from natural resources, the day ended with a fun time in the river followed by delicious dinner cooked by t he villagers. Even
though there were not any modern lights available at night, but it did not stop the fun. The staff surrounded around the campfire and had a
wonderful fellowship amongst each other. Everyone retreated to their slumber world early as the next morning, there were more to learn.
Birds chirping and breeze blowing to the face greeted everyone in the morning. After breakfast, everyone suited themselves for the
morning jungle trekking with the guides. The guides were showing the magnificent and the marvelous characteristics of Mother Nature and how
important it is to keep it intact. It is also one of the reasons they had to set up the camp in the first place. After lunch, the guides showed how to
make basic necessities’ using bamboos and woods from the jungle. They shared how they use ‘sumpit’ to shoot animals, and how to catch river crabs
with a little pieces of chicken meat tied to a young bamboo shoot. That night, after dinner, the atmosphere was very warm even though that night
was cold. Everyone gather around the campfire one more time as we drank, had little snacks, talk, share jokes, and play guessing games.
The following morning, everyone packed their bags with heavy hearts. On 9 a.m., the guides took us and began our journey back to the
reality world. It was indeed a memorable trip and experience for each and every one.
