ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to identify the architectural

character of different Protestant churches in Davao City and discover a

common exterior and interior architectural design of a church building

that would unite the protestant parishioners in their choice of a place of

worship. Ten different Protestant churches were included in the scope.

Through church history, sacred emotions scale, and photo elicitation

survey, the identity and meaning of every church included in the scope

were studied and determined. The result showed that the protestant

parishioners have different design preferences based on their age

bracket both in exterior and interior of the church. To define the identity

of protestant church from the perspectives of the parishioners, the three

preferred church designs were compared and analyzed to find the

common elements among the three. The researcher combined these

design elements to come up with a church that unite all protestant

denominations.
