A reading form the Book of Tobit
On the evening of their marriage, Tobias said to

Sarah, ‘You and I must pray and petition our Lord to win
His grace and protection’. They began praying for
protection, and this was how he began:
‘You are blessed, O God of our fathers; blessed, too,
is your name forever and ever. Let the heavens bless you
and all the things you have made for evermore. It was
you who created Adam, you who created Eve and his wife
to be his help and support; and from these two human
race was born. It was you who said, “It is not good that
the man should be alone; and so I do not take my sister
for any lustful motive; I do it in singleness of heart. Be
kind enough to have pity on me and bring us to old age
together.”
And together they said, ‘Amen, Amen’ The
Word of the Lord.

2. SECOND READING
Ephesians 5:2, 25-32
A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

Follow Christ by loving as he loved you, giving himself
up in our place. Husbands should love their wives just as
Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to
make her holy. He made her clean by washing her in
water with a form of words, so that when he took her to
himself she would be glorious with no speck or wrinkle or
anything like that, but holy and faultless. In the same
way, husbands must love their wives as they love their
own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love
himself. A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it
and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the
Church, because it is his body- and we are its living parts.
For the reason, a man must leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one
body. The mystery has many implications; but I am saying
it applies to Christ and the Church.

P: A lawyer, to disconcert Jesus, put a question, ‘master,

which is the greatest commandment on the Law?
Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all
your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment. The
second resembled it: You must love your neighbor as
yourself. On these two, hand the whole law, and the
Prophets also.’ The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.
HOMILY After the homily, all remain seated. The

bride and the groom stand for the Rite of Marriage. The
principal sponsors (ninongs and ninangs) stand beside the
couple.
THE RITE OF MARRIAGE

P: Beloved Henry and Cherry, you are here today to
seal your love with an eternal bond before the
Church. I assure you of the prayers of our
community that God pour his abundant blessings
on your love and help you to carry out the duties
of the married state.
And you, dear sponsors, parents, brothers and

sisters, relatives and friends of Henry and Cherry
may I ask you to help them with your prayers
and accept them as a new couple in our Christian
community.
SCRUNITY
P: May I now ask you to answer truthfully the

following questions.
(To the Bride) Cherry, did you come here of your
own free will to bind yourself forever in the love
and service of your husband?
Bride: Yes, Father.
P: (To the Groom) Henry, did you come here of

your own free will to bind yourself forever in the
love and service of your wife?
Groom: Yes, Father.
P: Are you both ready to raise as Christians the

children whom God will give you?
Bride & Groom: Yes, Father.
EXCHANGE OF CONSENT
P: Henry and Cherry, since you wish to contract
holy matrimony, please join your right hands and
express your intention before God and His
Church.

P: Cherry, do you take Henry here present, for your

lawful husband according to the rite of our Holy

arrhae. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

GIVING OF RINGS AND THE ARRHAE The couple is
given a copy of what they will say or he priest may read
this and the couple follows.
P : Now give these rings to each other.

Groom : Cherry, wear this ring as a sign of my love and
fidelity. In the name of the Father, and the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit.
Bride : Henry, wear this ring as a sign of my love and

of the Holy Spirit.
The groom holds the arrhae in both hands and the bride
places her cupped hands under those of the groom.
The groom lets the coins fall into the bride’s hands, as
he says…
Groom : Cherry, I give you these arrhae as a pledge of

my dedication to your welfare in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Bride : And I accept them.
THE GIVING OF THE BIBLE

P : Henry and Cherry use this Bible as the source of
strength and guidance for your Christian married life
and your family.
The bride and the groom: Thank you Father.
PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL All stand. Ninongs and

Ninangs to return to the respective seats.
P : Dear brothers and sisters, let us now pray for the

Church and for our newly wedding couple, whose
marriage reflects the union of Christ and his Church.
For every petition we will say: Lord, hear our
prayer.

1. For the Church, which is the bride of Christ, that, she
may always be faithful in her mission of spreading the
Good News of our salvation and Christ’s love for us.
Let us pray to the Lord.
2. For our government leaders, that they may become
God’s instrument in protecting the family and defend
life at all cost. Let us pray to the Lord.
3. For all the needs of our brothers and sisters, the sick,
the physically challenged, the prisoner and all those
abandoned by their loved ones, that through their
presence in our community we may be enlightened
and encouraged to be charitable. Let us pray to the
Lord.
4. For Henry and Cherry and for all those who have
chosen marriage as their vacation, that God may keep
their hearts united and be faithful stewards and
collaborators of God in rearing their future children.

5. For the young people who will embrace the vacation
to married life, that they may learn from life and
experiences of others the beauty of love that comes
from generosity. Let us pray to the Lord.
P : God our Father, pour down your blessings upon

your servants Henry and Cherry. Grant them to remain
faithful to you and to one another. At the end of a long
and well-spent life, reward them with eternal happiness
together with their children and with all those who love
them. Through Christ our Lord.

All be seated. Those who shall offer gifts prepare their

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

THE RITE OF THE CANDLE, THE VEIL AND THE
CORD.
1. Candle sponsors light the candles

2. The veil sponsors lay the white veil over the head of
the bride and over the shoulder of the groom.
3. The cord sponsors place the cord over the shoulders
of the couple in an 8 form.
OFFERTORY HYMN While the hymn is sung gifts ( bread

and wine, fruits and other offering in kind ) are brought by
relatives and friends to the altar in procession.
PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS

P : Blessed are you, Lord of God… it will become for us
the bread of life.
All : Blessed be God forever.
P : Blessed are you, Lord God for… it will become our
spiritual drink.
P : Pray, brethren (brothers and sisters) … be
acceptable to God, the almighty Father.
All : May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for
the praise and glory of his name, for our good and
the good of all his holy Church.

LAMB OF GOD (sung)

my roof but only say the word and soul shall be
healed.
The priest gives communion to the couple possibly on
both kinds of Body and Blood. Then after a few
minutes the veil and cord are removed from the
newly – wed couple.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
P : Let us pray. Grant, we pray almighty God… Through

Christ our Lord.

THE CONCLUDING RITES
P : Bow your heads and pray for God’s blessing.

The Solemn blessings for the newly-wed couple are

May the Lord Jesus, who graced the marriage at Cana
