LITURGY OF THE WORD Alternative readings may be

chosen from the
Lectionary or Appendix of this guide.

FIRST READING
Tobit 8:4-8

A reading form the Book of Tobit

On the evening of their marriage, Tobias said to

Sarah, ‘You and I must pray and petition our Lord to win
His grace and protection’. They began praying for
protection, and this was how he began:
‘You are blessed, O God of our fathers; blessed, too,
is your name forever and ever. Let the heavens bless you
and all the things you have made for evermore. It was
you who created Adam, you who created Eve and his wife
to be his help and support; and from these two human
race was born. It was you who said, “It is not good that
the man should be alone; and so I do not take my sister
for any lustful motive; I do it in singleness of heart. Be
kind enough to have pity on me and bring us to old age
together.”
And together they said, ‘Amen, Amen’ The
Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 102)The Lord is kind and

merciful.

Reader: My soul, give thanks to the Lord, all my being,

bless his holy name.
2 l The Rite of Sacrament of Marriage St. Anthony of
Padua Parish, Koronadal City. May 25, 2019.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord and never forget all
his blessings. R.

Reader: The Lord is compassion and love, slow to

anger and rich in mercy. As a father has
compassion on his sons, the Lord has pity on
those who fear him. R.

Reader: The love of the Lord is everlasting upon

those who hold him in fear; His justice
reaches out to children when they keep his
covenant in truth. R.

2. SECOND READING
Ephesians 5:2, 25-32

A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians

Follow Christ by loving as he loved you, giving himself
up in our place. Husbands should love their wives just as
Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her to
make her holy. He made her clean by washing her in
water with a form of words, so that when he took her to
himself she would be glorious with no speck or wrinkle or
anything like that, but holy and faultless. In the same
way, husbands must love their wives as they love their
own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love
himself. A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it
and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the
Church, because it is his body- and we are its living parts.
For the reason, a man must leave his father and mother
and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one
body. The mystery has many implications; but I am saying
it applies to Christ and the Church.
The word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

ALLELUIA All stand. There is no Alleluia during the
season of Lent.

GOSPEL READING Matthew

22:35-40

P: The Lord be with you.

All: And with your Spirit.
P: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to
Matthew.
All: Glory to you O lord.

P: A lawyer, to disconcert Jesus, put a question, ‘master,

which is the greatest commandment on the Law?
Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all
your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment. The
second resembled it: You must love your neighbor as
yourself. On these two, hand the whole law, and the
Prophets also.’ The Gospel of the Lord.

3 l The Rite of Sacrament of Marriage St. Anthony of

Padua Parish, Koronadal City. May 25, 2019.
