    Infrastructure growth in India saw increases across several sectors in 2017-18. Electricity generation rose 8.1%, cargo at major ports grew 4.8%, rail freight increased 4.8%, and railway earnings expanded 20%. The index of eight core infrastructure industries increased 4.8% from April to September 2018 compared to the same period the previous year. Highway construction has also expanded significantly, with the length of national highways constructed growing at a 23% compound annual growth rate. Installed electricity generation capacity has likewise increased substantially at a 9.1% compound annual rate over the past decade.
