Othello

Shakespeare is a poetic, playwright, and actor that was also known as the
greatest english writer in history. He communicates to his audience through human
conflict and emotion. In the story of Othello, Iago and Cassio were acquaintances to
Othello. Othello desired Desdemona knowing Iago wanted her and chose Cassio for the
position that Iago wanted. Iago created this hatred towards Othello and due to this
uncomfortable position Iago created a plan to get what he wants and destroy Othello's
happiness. Is Shakespeare still relevant and should it be taught in schools today? As a
student, Shakespeare should be taught in schools because many people could relate to
the experience and human emotions displayed through the play
As a student, miscommunication happens all the time between students and
teachers and other human beings in general. In the story of Othello, he shows
miscommunication when Iago had a whole plan that was a lie about Cassio and
Desdemona having an affair and when Othello confronts desdemona she didn’t have a
clue in why he was like this and othello didn’t give details which led to
miscommunication happening. In the text it states that “To whom, my lord? With whom?
How am i false?”(Act 4, Sc 2. Lines 49). This shows miscommunication because she
has no clue into what othello is talking about and Othello is not giving the details which
led to miscommunication happening.
As a teenager, cheating happens to everyone and it so happen to me plenty of
times so this story relates to a lot that might happen to people in real life. In the story of
othello, he was blinded throughout the story because when othello seen all the evidence
he needed such as when Iago and Cassio were talking about bianca but whole time
othello thought he was talking about Desdemona and when bianca brought out the
handkerchief which belong to desdemona which led Othello believing it more. In the text
it states that “ Yours, by his hand! And to see how he prizes the foolish woman your
wife! She gave it him, and he hath giv’n it his whore.]” (Act 4, Sc 1, Lines 194-196). By
othello seeing the handkerchief that really made him believe Iago about Cassio and
Desdemona having an affair which led Othello accusing her of cheating.
As a citizen of the world, choosing is also a big deal to us students and people
in general because a lot of people could relate of different types of choosing. In the
story of Othello, when he confronts desdemona he didn’t let her tell her side of the story
because he didn’t give in details about who desdemona was cheating with so the whole
time he chose Iago side instead of asking to hear Desdemona side of the story. In the
text it states that “ Ay, let her rot and perish and be damned tonight, for shall not live.”
(Act 4, Sc 1, Lines 200-201). Othello was so quick to believe in Iago because he seen
the handkerchief and now he wants to kill her instead of asking Desdemona about her
side of the story and see who’s lying or not.
Shakespeare is relevant and should be taught in schools because we could
relate to the emotions and the conflicts that happen in the story. Based on all the
evidence i gathered which proves that we should be taught Shakespeare as students
because of the conflict and the emotions that were happening in the story such as when
Iago made a lie about Cassio and Desdemona having an affair which led to Othello
accusing Desdemona of cheating which caused a big impact and a lot of emotions
happening. As a reader, we should all care because Shakespeare could teach us a lot
especially in the conflicts that happen it could teach us from right from wrong. In the
story of Othello, it taught me that to never believe something until you know both sides
of the story instead of one side of the story because it could lead to bigger conflicts that
you will regret.
