on the market for automation
engineering. SIMATIC PGs
have been a success on the
one hand due to the fact that
they are completely equipped

with integrated interfaces and
pre-installed programming
software for programming
SIMATIC components. On the
other hand SIMATIC PGs with
Windows operating system
and their powerful PC hard-
ware present a platform for
various applications outside
of SIMATIC.
Continuous innovation of
PGs in the direction of
modern PC technolo-
gy is achieved
while preserving
continuity, i.e. sup-
port of existing SIMATIC tar-
get systems is assured. The
latest generation of the
SIMATIC programming devic-
es consists of Field PG in note-
book form and the Power PG
as programming workstation.

Common features
Industry standard
Both new SIMATIC programming devic-
es are designed for harsh industrial en-
vironments. The decisive contribution is
provided by the impact-resistant and
distortion-resistant magnesium die-cast
housing.
Large-area shock resistors provide pro-
tection on the corners and edges, and
their damping properties simultaneous-
ly prevent the damaging influence of vi-
bration and shock on the electronic
components. A recessed, ergonomically
designed handle guarantees simple,
safe transport.
All-in-all, these design measures pro-
vide increased availability of the device
and an associated reduction in the total
cost of ownership.
Integrated interfaces
The required interfaces are integrated
for programming SIMATIC controllers
using TTY, MPI, PROFIBUS or Industrial
Ethernet. The Ethernet interface can
also be used for connection to company
LANs. Interfaces are of course also
present for the SIMATIC S7 and S5
memory cards and for the new micro
memory cards. Programming of S5
EPROM modules is possible using an
adapter for the memory card interface.
Two PC card interfaces and two USB in-
terfaces are present for connection of
modern I/O devices such as modem,
scanner and camera, but also for print-
er, keyboard or mouse. An external
monitor can of course be connected to
the VGA interface. All interfaces can be
protected from damage and dirt as well
as during transport by slides or flaps.

Ergonomics
Working in a user-friendly and non-fa-
tiguing atmosphere, even over an ex-
tended period of time under optimum
ergonomic conditions, is guaranteed
by:
· the ergonomic keyboard with robust
keyboard mechanics and abra-
sion-free laser inscription,
· the dirt-insensitive touchpad with
high positioning accuracy,
· rests at the sides for your hands.
Archiving large quantities of data
The DVD-ROM-/CD-RW and/or the
SuperDisk LS 240 floppy drives are avail-
able for fast, user-friendly archiving of
large amounts of data.
Erasable CDs can be used with the
DVD-ROM/CD-RW floppy drive. This Battery operated Field PG
drive also enables CDs to be burned
quickly and easily.
Together with integrated 16 bit stereo A powerful Li-Ion battery enables opera-

Field PG
The new mobile, designed for industry
SIMATIC® Field PG in notebook form is
suited for commissioning as well as ser-
vice and maintenance of automation
systems.
It can also be used for configuring and
programming. Due to its compact size
and low weight of less than 4 kg, it can
be used where space is at a premium,
for example in airplanes and trains.
Despite its compact size, the Field PG
with its 14.1” display and 1024 x 768
resolution enables you to work comfort-
ably and ergonomic manner.

Power PG

Power PG
The Power PG is a flexible programming
workstation with powerful components
from the desktop PC segment, e.g. Pen-
tium III processor and frontside bus with
133 MHz.
In addition to the PC card interfaces, the
PCI slots of the Power PG can also be
used for installing two PCI modules for
flexible expansion.
The main application for the Power PG is
configuring and programming as well as
for simulation and testing purposes. An
integrated wide-range voltage supply of
the keyboard is achieved using a (re-
chargeable) battery. If needed, power
supply can also be maintained by means
of a special cable from the Power PG.
The Power PG is a convincing argument
in everyday use, above all due to its
powerful 15” display which can be tilted
to 45° and 2D/3D graphics performance.
The PC full-scale keyboard with its own
ten-key block, which needs no cable
and can therefore be placed anywhere
on your desk, can be set-up at an angle Power PG with swivel display and detached keyboard
of up to 15° by using the hinged stand.
The Power PG can be upgraded quickly
and easily.
When the rear panel has been removed,
expansion modules can be used and
processor, main memory and harddisk
can be exchanged.
