Stop the pollution quick, don’t make the water sick.

Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to the Honourable Judges, Loyal

Timekeepers, Dear Contestants, Lovely teachers and members of the floor.

Water is one of the most basic of all needs - we cannot live for more than a few days
without it. And yet, most people take water for granted. We waste water needlessly and
don't realize that clean water is a very limited resource. More than 1 billion people
around the world have no access to safe, clean drinking water and over 2.5 billion do not
have adequate sanitation service. Over 2 million people die each year because of
unsafe water - and most of them are children!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

While we all love sun, sand and surf, it’s also our responsibility to take care of the
beaches. The trash we generate on the beaches is tremendous. Thus, I would like to
suggest a few brilliant ways to save the lifeblood of our world that are, be an ocean-
friendly pet owner and stop buying items exploiting marine life.

Let me explain on my first suggestion to save our precious water. We are big pet lovers
like you but you may not realize the way you care for, feed, and clean up after them can
have an impact on the environment. To be an ocean-friendly pet owner, you must aware
of the simple yet meaningful actions like reading pet food labels and consider how
sustainable the diet is. A good pet owner also never flushes cat litter, because it can
contain pathogens harmful to marine life. Other than that, by releasing aquarium fish or
other marine creatures into oceans, rivers, or other bodies of water, you are also taking
the risk in introducing non-native species harmful to existing ecosystems. Obviously, we
also need to be sure to choose marine lives that are acquired safely, and sustainably.
Ladies and Gentlemen,

My second suggestion to preserve our crystal clear water is by stop buying items
exploiting marine life. Coral jewellery, Tortoise shell hair accessories, Starfish and shell
related trinkets, Shark products, Nautilus Shells and Marine Turtle Shells are common
products that we can see being exploited by greedy marine wrecker. Thus, avoid
purchasing products and souvenirs exploiting marine wildlife. These products can
contribute to harming coral reefs and marine populations. We don’t want to see our
future children diving into the sea and see nothing except for water, right?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We love going to the sea every weekend but no one gives much thought to the state we
leave the beaches in after all the revelry. Snipes, plastic bottles, pile of cans, pet
discharge, plastic bags from shopping and food packaging, the trash we generate
thoughtlessly really causes a lot of ocean pollution.

Sooner or later, we will have to recognise that the Earth has rights, too, to live without
pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother
Earth, but the planet can live without humans. With this, I end my speech and my final
word is, let’s keep our blue ocean crystal clear. Thank you.
