Summary:
Vegetable garden, sowing of small dimensions and intensive cultivation in order to harvest food for
personal consumption. It has its origin in the traditional European garden and is usually dedicated to
family consumption or retail sale. In a study carried out in 2014, school gardens were used as an
environmental didactic strategy, with the purpose of using school gardens as an environmental didactic
strategy. The study was located in a field investigation of descriptive character, not experimental,
transactional. The population was conformed by 5 teachers and 7 students of the müller red
ecclesiastical school ". To collect the information, direct observation was used as a strategy and as an
instrument the questionnaire was composed of 25 items of closed questions, validated by experts and
whose reliability was determined by the Cronbach Alpha coefficient. The technique of descriptive
statistical analysis was used, especially the percentage analysis. The conclusions obtained by the author
show that teachers do not take school gardens into consideration as a didactic strategy for
environmental education, which is why the institution does not consider the ecological to awaken the
conscience of the student. The lyceum should take the theme of the school garden as a learning
resource, generate basic knowledge about food security, and also generate a series of benefits to
students as values and attitudes directed towards a healthy diet, care for the environment and the ability
to to produce their own food, encourage teamwork and the understanding of the division of labor, since
for their creation and maintenance students must work in small groups and ultimately encourage the use
of ingenuity, initiative and innovation in the project design through the completion of the entire cycle
mentioned above.
