PLANT VISIT REPORT
Last September 1, 2018, we have been able to visit Megawide Precast Plant in Taytay,
Rizal. Before we began the plant tour, the safety engineers instructed us first about the do’s and
don’ts inside the plant. They also presented a short background about their company. They told
us that aside from a precast plant, the company also has a batching plant. They also talked about
the successful projects of the company. I have seen some of the buildings that their company had
built and it was amazing to know that these were built using precast concrete. They also talk
During our tour, we have been accompanied by their safety engineer who serves us our
tour guide which explains the details of the process inside the plant. The first process that we saw
inside the plant was the preparation of steel mesh. The company has its own Mesh Welding
Machine, a robotic machine that automatically welds the rebars for pre-cast reinforcements.
However, the rebars are still manually tied by the workers. Aside from that, the lattice girders for
their half slab precast product are ordered which means that they are not made by the company.
The next process that we saw is the concrete distribution. The concrete distribution is not that
difficult especially because the company has its own mold for different precast products. The
concrete distribution is also aided by a machine which makes the pouring of concrete easier.
They also have an automatic shake table which aids the compaction of concrete. The safety
engineer also told us that their workers still manually screed the surface of the precast wall using
vibratory screed to ensure that the concrete is well-compacted and the surface of the products are
smooth. We also witness how the products are automatically transported. Instead of waiting for
28 days, they also have a different way of curing the concrete which was more time-efficient.
The workers also practice care in transferring products to avoid cracks. For the last part of our
tour, the safety engineer presented their finished products. I observed that the products have
holes in order to fasten the product. For the toilet products, they also provided space for electrical
wirings. The safety engineer also shows a 5-story building inside the plant which was
manufactured. This kind of activity gave us opportunity to broaden our learnings and able to
