1. (a) What are the different types of permanent magnets?
(b) Write the important features of Brushless DC motor.
2. (a) What are the applications of Linear induction motors?
(b) List the modifications necessary to operate a dc series motor satisfactorily on
single phase ac supply.

3. (a) Explain the construction and principle of operation of a switched reluctance
motor.
(b) Explain construction and principle of operation of a Brushless DC motor.
4. (a) Explain the construction and principle of operation of a linear induction motor
(b) Explain the construction and principle of operation of a Hysteresis motor.

1. (a) Explain in detail construction and working principle of reluctance motor. Also
show its characteristic.
(b) A 220 volt 50 Hz, 400 W , 2500 rpm ,single phase series motor has total
resistance of 15 ohm . For a stray power loss of 30 W find current and power
factor when machine works under rated conditions.
