NOIDA
SECOND SESSIONAL TEST
EVEN SEMESTER (2018-19)
B.Tech. VI Sem.
Branch: EN Section: A, B & C
Subject Name: Special Electrical Machines Paper Code: REE064
Time: 1:30 hrs. Max. Marks:30

Note: Attempt all questions.

SECTION-A

Note: All Questions carry equal marks. 4*2=08 Marks

1. (a) Define resolution in stepper motor.

(b) Define holding torque.
2. (a) Draw speed-torque characteristics of two phase A.C. servo motor.
(b) What are the applications of two phase A.C. servo motor?

SECTION-B

Note: All Questions carry equal marks. 4*3=12 Marks

3. (a) Explain the construction and working of a 2-phase A.C. servomotor.

(b) Draw and explain the torque-displacement and torque-pulse rate
characteristics of stepper motor.
4. (a) A single- stack, eight phase (stator) multiple, stepper motor has six rotor teeth.
The phases are excited one at a time. Determine (i) step size (ii) steps per
revolution (iii) speed, if the excitation frequency is 120Hz.
(b) Explain working, construction and control of a variable reluctance stepper
motor.

SECTION-C

Note: All Questions carry equal marks. 2*5=10 Marks

5. (a) Draw and explain the uni-polar drive circuit for variable reluctance stepper
motor.
(b) A 400 V, 50 Hz, two-phase, four-pole servo-motor with a cage rotor has
following parameters: R1 = 2.1 Ω/phase; R2' = 7.25 Ω/phase;

X1 = 2.0 Ω/phase; X2' = 2.0 Ω/phase; Xm = 47.34 Ω/phase.

The motor is operated with 115 V across the reference field winding and 69 V
across the control winding, the latter leads the former by 90°.

Determine the stator currents, output power factor and torque of the motor
with s = 0.5. Assume windage and iron losses at above slip and voltage to be 61.5
W. Stator windings have equal turns.
