Why I Think This World Should End - Prince Ea
Introduction

The work is titled “Why I Think This World Should End” by Prince Ea. It describes
the reality of life in the digital age, and how the world goes on a regression of humanity.
The context is universal as majority of our lives are centered to these harsh realities. He
creatively pointed out the flaws of the digital age and how humanity degraded over the
course of politics and religion. He aims to inform everyone and persuade people to
change for the better.

Summary

To summarize it, he spoke how everyone has grown apathetic of others and feeds
on fame that may only last 15 seconds. The government does not care for education as
prisons are built and outnumber the schools. Food selection has grown unhealthy though
I disagree on his statement on apples that have been genetically modified as apples are
genetically modified to last longer and taste better. Parents do not monitor their children
as they are growing too fast in the hands of modern technology and the music that the
current generation makes that are inappropriate for their age. The government has grown
corrupt and power hungry that the public that has elected them still suffers. The role
models change to the point it stains the view of people to discriminate others simply they
are different. Religion has been dominated by people with hatred for others and tainted
the image of religion itself. Capitalism has crippled others, everyone is working under the
unfit system of running money. It also created standards that others are pressured to
reach.

Critical Evaluation

The transcript shows how the current world works. The speaker exposes the reality
of the digital age, that things are entirely different from the past generations. The mentality
is shown to be toxic to everyone. Examples of these are the religion that is supposed to
promote love, yet people promoted hate towards others and capitalism on how money
rules everyone’s lives and its standards set upon by people that are unrealistic in a sense
it is unreachable for everyone to achieve.

The viewpoint seemed to be biased. It simply shows the negativity rising from the
world around us. The downsides of the era are too heavy to the point it became the title,
of the view of the current world needs to end. His voice of how he speaks are with emotion,
implying personal views but also may imply empathy towards who have suffered. This
creates sort of phenomenological view that either stems from his perception or general
perception of a specific marginalized group. This may be done to incite the empathy within
human beings who remain as social animals despite the growing apathy caused by the
world.

The tone is dark by words yet appropriate, that it should inform everyone that the
society is devolving despite the improvements of technology. That there is inequality and
hatred rooted in the societal problems. The mention of money heavily implies capitalism,
the current system all goes through, that it is the root of evil. This kind of system cripples
everyone, considering the rule of money has changed over the years and people work as
if robots to earn and never to find enjoyment for the work they personally desire as it is
worthless by monetary means. There is no sugarcoating to these problems as to
sugarcoat it will be met with backlash to those who are fully aware.

The wake-up call is properly organized and objective for a cause. None is omitted
from the speech, as there should not be left unsaid. This shows the effective organization
of his words and his thoughts and to his intention of spreading the message to everyone
who are sleeping. His structure of words show persuasion by empathetic means. He
doesn’t need to show the evidence as the evidence itself already exists in real life, and
that serves as a factual evidence; the current reality whether one experiences these or
not, everyone suffers in one way or the other.

The message is implied to be pointed towards the youth, who in time shall take the
place of the current generation. Despite its dark tone that may be considered
inappropriate for them to hear. But as stated, these are realities the world is currently
facing, there is no point of beating around the bush to these problems. However, it should
be noted that the message is not only for the youth but for the general audience or public.
The message is intended for them and depends how the audience should react to these
whether they act or do nothing. He does not use “we” and refers the audience as “you”
that it may seem a bit off that he is not included but it should be noted that he is persuading
people to change for the better, that he has done his part and imploring others to do theirs
too.

Conclusion

The cultural context of the text is as time passes by technology has changed us
on how we behave or how we act. Despite the various cultures present, it still brings out
the universal meaning of how the technology has advanced throughout the ages and
bringing the era of change not just the betterment of work but also how people act towards
humanity. To conclude, Prince Ea created a spoken word and used video as medium in
order to send a message. His words pointed out his main idea effectively. His reasons to
point out that aside from the work of art but also waking others up. Stolen time, tainted
religion, corrupt government, and toxic capitalism are given examples how the world has
changed to the point of being human is pointless, the word humanity is being erased in
everyone’s vocabulary. It is recommended for the work to be listened, lest should grow
inspiration to make the world better without the afore mentioned problems that plague
humanity. Apart from these negativities, he pointed out that life is short, and we should
make use of it in doing good, be aware of every breath, practice forgiveness, don’t be
afraid to love, be kind, be patient, be compassionate, lose your ego and most importantly
go on the journey to find your true self. Prince Ea created this to persuade his audience
that the world needs to change and that his audience can help to change it by taking part
or share each individual responsibility.
