Teacher: Rose Child: Ming Date: Nov/Dec 2018

Ni Hao Ming! Welcome to early explorers! You were a shy reserved child
when you were starting and until now, you have been that same girl but
slowly progressing. as time passed by, I have been observing that you
are slowly getting out of your shell. These photos were taken when we
had our Diwali celebration and look at how you became so engaged in
the learning experiences.
You have been an involved
child and you took time to
explore the things in the
environment. Today, as I
was observing you here at
this corner, I noticed that
you are very much familiar
with the numbers. I
spotted you being so
concentrated and focused
on what you were doing.
Counting is made easier
when you use a resource
that you like and that’s
what I have noticed since
you have the duplo as your
learning tool. There are a
lot more things to do at
the centre but I am happy
at this point as you are
slowly showing your
abilities.
Ming and Annanya’s lovely time at At some points, these two would look
the reading corner. They each get at the picture and compare what they’ve
their books and read on their own. been seeing on the book.

Slowly Ming, you have started making friends with the children at early
explorers. You have made such great friendship first with Annanya. You
shared the same interest and just like you, she’s also finding her own set
of friends as well. good thing you had been making good friendship with
each other.

Making friends is one of the first few things that greatly help in the
settling process. you have been showing a good progress in this aspect
and slowly, you are gaining the confidence that you need in building a
stronger relationship with the children. This is a good start.

When Catalina became the hairdresser, This picture showed how happy you were
you lined up and decided that you would in dancing and interacting with your

And how I love seeing you so much
enjoying what the outside
environment has to offer. I know
that you have started to build
social relationship with annanya
and here you were two having such
a lovely time. I can hear you
counting and then I realised that
you were playing hide ’n seek. The
smile on your face never fades
since the day you started to
befriend each other. You feel more
confident about yourself and you
have started to realise the
importance of interacting with
other people. This is a good sign
that you have really started to
feel your sense of belonging in a
place. Having friends make all the
difference.
And look who’s sitting with some
group of children here, it’s you Ming!
You have been so engaged with the
learning experiences we have been
providing here at the centre. It is
good to see you being so involved.
Your early explorers journey has just
started and yet you have already
experienced a lot of things. I am sure
that you would have a lot more
experiences that you could look
forward to.

“Is that Ming Running?”, I asked

Kenzie. And she said, “Yes!”. Oh what
a surprise! It’s my first time to see
you running along the deck and it
surprised me more when I realised
that you were running with some
group of children. I observed and
see whether you were playing with
them. Oh Yes! you were! you were
playing chasing game with these
group of children. Wow! This could
be a good start of you building
your social confidence. You are
indeed slowly settling in well
Ming! I couldnt wait to see you
feeling that great sense of
belonging here at Early
Explorers! I think, it’s best if I
would organise a group game that
you can be involved in. :)
Days had gone so fast and each day had been an opportunity for
you to explore the areas of our environment. Not only that, you
have also started to widen your group of friends. During the
past days, I have captured group learning experiences where you
were actively involved. You sat with your peers and learn
alongside them. There was this one morning when I saw you
sitting with some group of children attentively listening to
what catalina (who seemed to be the teacher) was reading. And
one time when some primary school students visited us, you
confidently raised your hands up to show that you wanted to have
a turn in trying out the robot that they brought in. These
experiences allowed you to become part of a group and to learn
with them. This greatly enhances your social skills and your
confidence. You have developed that confidence using a variety of
strategies and ways for exploring things and making sense of
the things in the natural world through your engagement with
these learning experiences.
It has been a long and meaningful journey. And how else could I end this settling in
process for you ming than witnessing this special moment. This caught my attention
and I love this learning experience because I saw how you were so confident and happy
to share a song to your friends. I heard you singing the ‘twinkle, twinkle little star’
in your own language! You were holding this piece of paper while showing it to your
peers. I sat and listened to you and eventually sing with you. There was this great
sense of pride as you sing the lyrics of the song. I love your confidence and I love
that you were able to confidently sing it infront of your peers. Such a great time and
meaningful learning experience!

What learning has happened?

One of the best ways to promote a great sense of belonging for children is to make
sure that resources cater to everyone. This learning resource is made especially for
those children whose first language is mandarin. As you sing the song ming, I felt
your great happiness. And when I started to sing with you, you became even happier. You
have such a great journey of settling in. You started as a shy girl who does not speak
much but look at how confident you are now in expressing yourself. You have started
to build that confidence which I am sure will constantly grow as each passing day.
You have had a great start and I know that you will have more things to explore in the
future whether by yourself or with a group of children. Good luck in your future
journey and I hope that you continue to build your confidence and enthusiasm in all
the learning experiences we will offer.
