Dear Mrs. Bauman

Throughout this year I have consistently grew in my knowledge of

english. There are many things that I had particularly enjoyed such as being
able to tie some books into the academy life. There were books that through
them I was able to sympathize the academic experience.Through this year in
academic english I was able to grow as a thinker/reader and a writer.

The book I enjoyed the most was Anthem. Through this book I was
able to see how close minded a person’s mind can be and how thinking
outside of the box may be difficult but definitely rewarding in the end.
Although I may not have been able to keep track of the whole story while
reading, I was able to understand the big picture when I finished reading the
whole book. Another book that was very influential on my reading skills was
the play Caesar. This book not only taught me to take in account others advice
but also helped widen my skills in play reading. My least favorite book was
siddhartha, it may have struck against my personal beliefs but also was a very
hard book to follow through with reading.

Not only did I Excel in my reading skills but I have also improved my
writing skills. The area I had improved the most in writing was nonfiction,
reference based essay. To be more specific the essay that benefitted me the
most was the Lord of the Flies paper. Through that project I revisited a long
lost skill of mla format references and learned to incorporate nonfiction
samples into a piece of writing without having any choppy passages. Though I
may not have completely perfected those two skills I believe they were a great
challenge that will help me in the future.

In the future I plan on utilizing my lessons learned in not only my

english class but also others that may require the skills. Many of my AP
classes will give me a chance to master the skills of reading more in depth,
applying the reading into real life, and being able to write a nonfiction essay
easily with well incorporated references. Next year I predict that the writing I
would have to do the most is non-fiction based on my class choices.

This year I wrote that “sleep is your ultimate best friend” because
through the right amount of rest, a person works at their peak performance.
Also when overthinking about a subject in life, a good nap has always helped
me see things a bit clearer. Throughout the year I have changed into a better,
grounded person through my focusing on my mental and physical health. I
always thought that work under pressure was the best work that came out of
me, my view about that had changed. I now believe that my best work comes
from when I am completely physically and mentally healthy.

In conclusion I have changed a great deal from the start of this school
year. I became more active in the academy and school in general, my views on
life have changed, and I became overall a better english student.
