LESSON PLAN IN ORAL COMMUNICATION

GRADE 11

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson 85% of the students are expected to:
a. identify the two types of communication;
b. differentiate verbal from nonverbal communication;
c. participate actively in the classroom discussion; and
d. perform the given communication tasks using the given rubric.
A. Content Standard
The learner understands the nature and elements of oral communication in context.

B. Performance Standard
The learner designs and performs effective controlled and uncontrolled oral communication activities based on
context.
C. Learning Competency
The learner distinguishes the unique feature(s) of one communication process from the other.

B. Motivation
Today we are going to have some fun. (The students will be
grouped into two.)
But before that, let us divide the class into 2 groups.

Are you familiar with the game charades?

I have here pieces of paper and all of them contain titles of a movie. One representative
from each group will pick a piece of paper and he/she will act whatever title he/she
picked. Other members of the group will guess the act. You are given 1minute to guess
the word. Each correct answer is equivalent to 1 point. A 5 seconds steel will be given
to the 2nd group if the first group failed to guess the title of the movie.

If that’s the case, let’s start the game.

The game only tells us that we do not only communicate using the words but actions as
well. This ways of communication are called verbal and nonverbal.

I have another activity for you. I want you to identify whether these sentences belong to
verbal or nonverbal communication.
1. Talking with your friend about your crush.
2. Raising one eye brow.
3. Agreeing to someone by nodding.
 4. Making an interview.
5. Waving to someone.
6. Engaging in an argument.
7. Giving instructions in a game.
8. Asking for clarifications regarding the workshop.
9. Poking someone.
10. Putting some of your hair at the back of your ear.

ANALYSIS:

ABSTRACTION:
Let’s find out if your answers are correct by defining verbal and no verbal communication.

Verbal communication refers to the form of communication in which message is

transmitted orally.

For example, when we talk to someone we are transmitting the information orally.

Can you give me more example of verbal communication?

Nonverbal communication is the sending or receiving of wordless messages. Nonverbal

communication involves:
 eye contact
 facial expressions
 posture
 touch or haptic
 gesture.

APPLICATION
Small Group Differentiated Activities (SGDA) (10 minutes)

Count off from 1-4. Proceed to your respective groups and choose your leader.
Each group will be given a different task to perform. You are given 5 minutes to
prepare.

 TASK 1: Make 10 “hugots” of any topic and share it to the class.

 TASK 2: Compose a short song about verbal and nonverbal
communication.
 TASK 3: Perform a short role play and integrate the types of
communication.
 TASK 4: Draw a poster that shows the types of communication.
