Jesus is Lord and in this study we will explore what it means to live with Jesus Christ as Lord. Our
relationship with God opens up into a whole new realm when we are born again. The term ‘born
again’ appears in just one story in the New Testament (John chap 3). In this story Jesus describes how
a person is born once naturally (from a mother’s womb). Then he explains that it is necessary to be
born of the spirit as well. In the last study we saw how the problem of sin leads to eternal death. We
are spiritually dead until we accept what
JESUS
Is returning to take us to be with Him in heaven
God did to deal with our sin. Jesus
made the way for us to be spiritually
Buried in a tomb
becoming a human. He was born and
Alive today
lived a sinless life. He showed us how
humanity can live as we trust in and rely
on God. As he died, was buried and
then rose again, he conquered death
and provided the way for us to have a
relationship with God. We could never
have had a relationship with God if Jesus
had not done what he did.
Now we can enter into the relationship
God has always designed us to have with
Him. That is as his children.
1. When you receive Jesus as Lord, you enter a new family. What do the following verses say
about how you enter the new family?
(b) John 3: 3 - 7 Jesus is speaking with a man named Nicodemus, Jesus tells him that to see the
kingdom of God, he must be : born again
As children of God, we are heirs of many promises that God gives us. We are positioned in a place of
great value as created in God’s image and esteemed as God’s family. It is such a wonderful position we
have all been given the opportunity to receive.
Disciple- “ A learner”
Known as disciples of Jesus A disciple is not just a pupil,
As we are born again, children of God, we are invited to become but an adherent who
a disciple of Jesus Christ. Jesus tells us to make disciples. imitates their teacher.
6. What are the names the two kingdoms mentioned in the Bible? Col 1:12-14 kingdom of
light/ kingdom of the Son and dominion /kingdom of darkness
Satan is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. God is the King of the kingdom of heaven. As children of
God we become citizens of the kingdom of heaven, or as its also known, the kingdom of light.
Having Jesus as Lord is like allowing him to take the ‘steering wheel’ of your life. We are normally used
to being ‘the boss’ of our own life. We have the steering wheel and make all the decisions about what
we think about and say, and even what actions and attitudes we have. Giving Jesus Lordship is
surrendering our will to allow him to lead and shape us in
every area of our life. He is a good God. He has our very
best in mind. We can trust him.
7. Discuss what it might mean for you as you allow Jesus Christ to be LORD of your life.
NOTES:
Solid Foundations- Study 2 Jesus in my life
In the Bible, Paul speaks about the Christian life as like a race. Many people may start
to run in a marathon. It takes determination to finish the marathon race. God is on
your side. Allow God to help you everyday. Living a life of faith in Jesus Christ is
exciting. You can't do it alone, but with God by your side YOU CAN!
When you are born again you are a child of God. Others who are born again are your
family- God’s family. You can encourage and support one another. Starting well, living
well, and finishing well are all made easier if we do it alongside family. Jesus is LORD!
You can choose to live an exciting life with him. Choose also to encourage, love, and
support those who walk with you.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- Jesus
Leader’s Notes
It may be helpful to get an idea about where different people in your group are at in their Christian
birth experience.
1. Ask questions about different born again experiences.
There can be a great benefit in establishing from the beginning of the sessions, that there is support
available from the group.
2. Ask for prayer needs and give others the opportunity to pray for those needs.
