Solid Foundations- Study 2 Jesus in my life

Solid Foundations ~Leaders notes

Jesus is Lord and in this study we will explore what it means to live with Jesus Christ as Lord. Our
relationship with God opens up into a whole new realm when we are born again. The term ‘born
again’ appears in just one story in the New Testament (John chap 3). In this story Jesus describes how
a person is born once naturally (from a mother’s womb). Then he explains that it is necessary to be
born of the spirit as well. In the last study we saw how the problem of sin leads to eternal death. We
are spiritually dead until we accept what

humanity can live as we trust in and rely
on God. As he died, was buried and
then rose again, he conquered death
and provided the way for us to have a
relationship with God. We could never
have had a relationship with God if Jesus
had not done what he did.
Now we can enter into the relationship
God has always designed us to have with

born again we are in God’s family too.

12
Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but according to your sinful nature?
it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. Romans 8: 2 & 13 You will die

For if you live according to the sinful nature, you (eternal)
will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the
misdeeds of the body, you will live,

4. What does verse say our position is

Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs
of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share
Heirs of God & co-heirs of Christ
in his sufferings in order that we may also share in
his glory.

As children of God, we are heirs of many promises that God gives us. We are positioned in a place of
great value as created in God’s image and esteemed as God’s family. It is such a wonderful position we
have all been given the opportunity to receive.

Solid Foundations- Study 2 Jesus in my life

As a disciple of Jesus, you learn from Jesus.

You learn by growing in a personal relationship with him. Jesus is alive and desires a personal
relationship with you. Day by day and moment by moment he is interested in you and interacts with
you through his Word, The Bible, and through His Holy Spirit. He loves to show us his love for us and
to teach us the best most exciting way to live. His desire is that we learn about his kingdom and live by
faith with Jesus Christ as our Lord.

From one kingdom to another

As you become a child of God, the Bible says that you change from belonging to one kingdom into a
different kingdom.

6. What are the names the two kingdoms mentioned in the Bible? Col 1:12-14 kingdom of
light/ kingdom of the Son and dominion /kingdom of darkness

Satan is the ruler of the kingdom of darkness. God is the King of the kingdom of heaven. As children of
God we become citizens of the kingdom of heaven, or as its also known, the kingdom of light.

Jesus is Lord- Trust in HIM

It is important to be able to distinguish the difference between believing that Jesus is real and living a
life of putting your faith in him. Believing that God exists and is who the Bible says he is, is fantastic.
Jesus asks you to do more than that. Put your faith in him -believe in Jesus, trust Jesus Christ as your
Lord.

Having Jesus as Lord is like allowing him to take the ‘steering wheel’ of your life. We are normally used
to being ‘the boss’ of our own life. We have the steering wheel and make all the decisions about what
we think about and say, and even what actions and attitudes we have. Giving Jesus Lordship is
surrendering our will to allow him to lead and shape us in
every area of our life. He is a good God. He has our very
best in mind. We can trust him.

Believe that Jesus is your Saviour- He has saved you from

your sin.
Also believe and live with Jesus as your Lord.

7. Discuss what it might mean for you as you allow Jesus Christ to be LORD of your life.

Final thought for the lesson

Decide today to finish well.

Choosing to live with Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is an awesome and exciting decision. Even more
important than choosing to live for Jesus today, is choosing to still be living for Jesus -everyday.

In the Bible, Paul speaks about the Christian life as like a race. Many people may start
to run in a marathon. It takes determination to finish the marathon race. God is on
your side. Allow God to help you everyday. Living a life of faith in Jesus Christ is
exciting. You can't do it alone, but with God by your side YOU CAN!
When you are born again you are a child of God. Others who are born again are your
family- God’s family. You can encourage and support one another. Starting well, living
well, and finishing well are all made easier if we do it alongside family. Jesus is LORD!
You can choose to live an exciting life with him. Choose also to encourage, love, and
support those who walk with you.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- Jesus

Leader’s Notes
It may be helpful to get an idea about where different people in your group are at in their Christian
birth experience.
1. Ask questions about different born again experiences.

There can be a great benefit in establishing from the beginning of the sessions, that there is support
available from the group.
2. Ask for prayer needs and give others the opportunity to pray for those needs.
