11 FUNCTIONAL PATTERNS

HEALTH PERCEPTION – HEALTH MANAGEMENT PATTERN

Mrs. B.O tells that she is not feeling well for now because of her incision at the perineum site.
But she explains that she try to eats nutritious food for her to be healthy. She takes her medicine
regularly (at the right time with the right dose). She also encourages her family to take vitamins.

NUTRITIONAL – METABOLIC PATTERN

5 tbs. of rice ½ cup of rice 2 pcs Biscuits ½ cup of rice
1 glass of water ½ bowl nilagang baka 1 glass of water ½ bowl sinigang na bagus
1pc banana 1 glass of water

Mrs. B.O said that she was 43 kg when she was not pregnant. After 9 months of her pregnancy,
she gained 16 kg. She said that she has a very good appetite before when it comes in eating.
She was five feet and two inches.

ELIMINATION PATTERN

Mrs.B.O eliminates bowel, one time a day only. She describes her stool as semi-solid, dark
brown in color. She eliminates urine five times a day and yellowish in color. She felt tenderness or pain
because of surgical incision. She stated that it has vaginal discharge occurs sometime.

ACTIVITY – EXERCISE PATTERN

She is a sewer at sta. Cruz Manila (8am to 5 pm). She wakes up at 5:30 in the morning to cook
their meal. At 7 o’clock, she arrived in her work. She tells that she having exercises through walking.
She enjoys watching television and listening radio.

SLEEP – REST PATTERN

Mrs. B.O usually sleep at 8pm and she wake up at 5-6am before. She maintains a normal
sleeping pattern with about 9-10 hours of rest. But now, she does not have a normal sleeping pattern.
She usually has a disturbed sleep during night because she took care of her baby. She stated that does
not use any sleeping aids even though she does not have enough sleep.

COGNITIVE-PERCEPTUAL PATTERN
 She said that sometimes she experienced difficulty of hearing and does not have problem in
vision that is why she has 20/20 average of visual sense. She also said that she sometimes
experiencing memory loss.

SELF-PERCEPTION PATTERN
She is very irritable person and sometimes she is not approaching any people. She stated also
that she is a quiet type of person and prefers to be alone during in times of stressed.

ROLE-RELATIONSHIPS PATTERN
Their family is belong to extended family which her younger sister live with them. They are all
4 members in the family which her husband took the responsibility for the shoulder of their daily
budget. She said that she they have good relationship with each other and with other friends. And she
said that all of the members of her family are worried about her condition but at the same time they
are all happy for the new member of the family.

SEXUALITY-BELIEFS PATTERN
Mrs. B.O has 1 child. She stated that she never had aborted baby and she does not have any
changes in sexual relationship with her partner. She never used any contraceptives. She verbalizes
that her first menstrual period when she was 15 years old. She is regular cycle which takes 3 to 5 days
period, and she uses 4 to 5 pads a day. Her last menstrual period was December 2009.

VALUE-BELIEF PATTERN
Mrs. B.O said that the most valuable thing in her life is the “Almighty God” which she gets her
strength and faith that is why religion is important to her. She also considers her family as the second
most important thing in her life and the source for her to live. She is a Catholic and when she have
time she go to the church with her family.

COPING STRESS MANAGEMENT PATTERN

She stated that both of them make the decision in their family. He considers the opinion of
each family member. Her family can cope in time of crisis. She said that she does not want to change
anything; she is happy and is already contented of what she has. And she was stress she goes to the
mall which she spent time to forget her problem and also she eat her favorite food like ice cream.
