Around 97% of scientists agree that humans are changing global temperature.

There

has been a division of belief with global warming around the world. Global warming is the

release of too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by humans, it’s also a serious issue

because it pollutes the air and has dangerous effects on the environment. We need to

address and find a solution for global warming immediately. We are accelerating climate

change and our future will suffer the consequences of it. Global warming must be stopped

because natural disasters are expected to get worse, global temperatures are increasing

and it’s affecting children of the next generation.

One issue that is getting worse because of us is the natural disasters. These

catastrophic events that happened in the past such as wildfires, hurricanes, etc, are

expected to get worse if we don’t do something about it. An article states “By 2050, a report

calls for a total or near-total phaseout of the burning of coal.” We are accelerating the

natural process of climate change by the burning of coal, oil, and natural gas. This includes

our transportation, generating electricity which uses fossil fuels, industrial manufacturing,

and even deforestation. All these things humans do on a daily basis release more carbon

dioxide than what the earth needs. If we don’t do anything in the next 10 years it could

result in unsustainable living conditions on Earth. Or as Elon Musk, technology

entrepreneur, investor, and engineer, explained it as “more destruction than all the wars in

history combined.” There are people who obviously know what is happening and are trying

to spread awareness to tell people to take heavier actions on this issue. Hopefully with the

freedom of speech we are given, people will listen and speak up to help prevent this from

happening.
Not to mention the rising temperatures. A U.S. government report states “...the

continued use of fossil fuels has led to rising global temperatures. Risks of extreme heat

and weather events also rise as temperatures do.” Since 1900, the Earth has warmed by 1.8

degrees Fahrenheit and sea levels have risen by 8 inches. Heat waves, downpours, and

wildfires have become much more frequent. The world's oceans are under what they call a

"triple threat." The water is getting warmer, more acidic and oxygen levels are dropping.

Scientists also have reported that “Global warming is also hurting the economy, wildlife,

and energy supply and is expected to get worse.” Food will become less plentiful in some

places, extra heat will make it harder to work and live in some places. In Africa, reduced

rainfall will cut 50% of crop yields in just a few years. The extra carbon dioxide in the

recent years has been the issue. This is called the greenhouse effect. The earth's

atmosphere absorbs the carbon dioxide but has been absorbing too much of it because we

keep using it. It accelerates climate change overall and affects the temperatures globally. To

avoid extreme conditions there are many solutions that take time to go through, which has

to be very soon.

Not only does climate change affect the weather, it also affects life on earth. I learned

that even children are also very affected by this. Extreme heat is associated with rise in

infant deaths, physical birth defects, delayed brain development, and other problems. The

direct effects of heat are just one way climate change can have an impact on children. In

2016, around two dozen children from 8-19 years old believed that Congress and the

President have done too little to address the climate crisis. They went so far as to sue the

government. A 15 year old from Colorado said "My generation is going to be inheriting the
crisis we see all around us today.” The kids have taken to courts, filed petitions and

complaints of young people in all 50 states, saying governments are failing to protect them

and future generations from the harms of global warming ."This is an intergenerational

issue... a case where our actions will affect our grandchildren and their children." Hansen,

current head of the climate science program. Hansen is right, this issue, our doing, will

affect several generations.

On the other hand, some people, such as the president, think differently. Some

people think the earth will go back to how it was before and some believe it’s a hoax

altogether. That it’s not our fault and nothing will happen in the future. Some scientists

believe that climate change is caused by an equal combination of humans and the

environment, mostly by the environment, or that there’s not enough information to say.

There has been many events in the past from global warming and more reports on

evidence of the earth’s increasing temperatures. Even after all these changes, some people

still don’t think it’s man made. However, it really is our fault because of all the pollution we

are creating and all the fossil fuels we are burning. Therefore, the acceleration of climate

change is happening due to our actions on earth.

Scientists have warned for years that climate change could result in unsustainable

living conditions on Earth. Earth’s climate is getting warmer and it’s affecting people,

plants, and animals everywhere in different ways. Worse natural events, increased heat,

and the children’s future at risk are all the effects of climate change. All those hurt people

and their damaged homes from those bad natural events, all the heat and droughts around

the world that hurts our crops and animals, and all the children who are getting hurt by
this, this is all our doing. If you were able to, wouldn’t you want to do something about this?

To better our world, for everyone? These might be big world events but even you can help

prevent less carbon dioxide by doing some things. Whenever you can, ride a bike, unplug

electronics when you’re not using them, change to energy-efficient light bulbs, don’t waste

food and eat organic food when you are able to. Even the smallest of actions can make big

differences in the world if we all contribute.
