Affirmative

You need to add “s” to the verb

She helps me Ella me ayuda

28
She comes everyday Ella viene a diario

There are some rules you need to remember in present simple, affirmative using 3rd person

We normally add the letter S

 She plays the guitar  She buys cat food

(Ella toca la guitarra) (Ella compra comida de gato)
 He uses his phone  He practices grammar everyday (El
(El usa su teléfono) practica gramática todos los días)

When the verb ends in consonant + y, we eliminate the y and add IES

 She studies with me  My mom hurries me up

(ella estudia conmigo) (mi mamá me apura)
 He tidies his bed  He replies the letters
(el arregla su cama) (el responde las cartas)

When the verb finishes in SH, SS, O, X, Z, we add ES

 My dad goes to work early (mi papa va a trabajar temprano)

 She watches TV in her bedroom (ella ve TV en su cuarto)
 He misses his family in Venezuela (el extraña su familia en Venezuela)
 He finishes his classes at 12 (el termina sus clases a las 12)

Negative
Zifeng International Language School Written by teacher Jessica Escalona
You need to add DOESN’T between the subject and the verb, eliminate the changes
you did in affirmative

 My dad doesn’t go to work on Saturday

Mi papa no va a trabajar el sábado
 He doesn’t tidy his brother’s bed
El no arregla la cama de su hermano 29

 She doesn’t buy fish food

Ella no compra comida de peces
 She doesn’t come every Sunday
Ella no viene cada domingo

Interrogative

You need to add the word DOES before the affirmative sentence and a question mark
at the end. The verb won’t have the changes

 Does he practice grammar every day?

¿El práctica gramática a diario?
 Does she study with me?
¿Ella estudia conmigo?
 Does she watch TV in her bedroom?
¿Ella ve TV en su cuarto?
 Does he miss his family in Venezuela?
¿El extraña a su familia en Venezuela?

Kim and Ken are twins and they live at the zoo. Their father is the zookeeper. He
has so many things to do. On Mondays they take a shower, the hippos join the fun. Then
watch TV with the fish, the week has just begun. On Tuesdays they eat breakfast with the
pandas and the frogs. And eat dinner in the evening with chimps and cats and dogs. On
Wednesdays they clean their teeth, the crocodile helps them brush.
Then at night they ride their bikes, the rhino gives a push. On Thursdays they play
football, with parrots in the park. Then take a swim in the pool, the one without the shark!
On Fridays they do their homework, the octopus helps too. Then play some games with their
friends and run around the zoo. On Saturdays they go shopping, with the kangaroos. Then
come home on a big, red bus and have a little snooze. On Sundays they are very tired and
sleep until its lunch. Then take a walk around the zoo and see the friendly bunch.

I am Guarito and I love
sports. My favorite sport is
baseball. I practice all the time but
I play with other teams from
October to January, sometimes
February. Baseball is a very fun sport to practice. I can 48
run, I use a bat, gloves, special shoes, a cap and sometimes a helmet. You need 2 groups and
9 people to play baseball. The game lasts 9 innings, unless a game is tied, at which point they
play additional innings until an inning ends with one team in the lead. In terms of time, a
short baseball game takes about 2 hours, a "normal" one takes about three hours, and there is
not really any upper limit

My family and I follow “Deportivo Lara”, we like soccer as well.

The stadium is called “Metropolitano”. This sport is different but it’s also
great to be played with friends. You need boots, a bigger ball than the
one we use in baseball, shorts and socks to cover your legs. You need 2
groups, 11 people for each group. My family and I go to many games
every year. A professional soccer game is 90 minutes long. At the end of
each 45-minute half, the referee is allowed to add any number of additional minutes of play
at his own discretion

At school, I practice a lot of basketball. The teacher is playing

with us every Monday and Wednesday afternoon. To play this sport,
we need to have 2 teams with 5 people. This sport is played with
shorts, a t-shirt and an orange ball. This game is 4 quarters of 12
minutes each, for a total of 48 minutes. However, regulation time is
stopped for many aspects of gameplay, like fouls, ball out-of-bounds, timeouts, and a 15-
minute halftime. That makes the wall-clock duration of typical games 2-2.5 hours.

Janet has a new bike. Her new bike is red. It has a red and blue flag on the back. Janet
55
can ride her bike really fast. She rides her bike after school. Janet’s best friend and neighbor
is Allison. Janet goes to Allison’s house and then she goes back home every afternoon. Janet
likes to ride her bike with her dad and mom on weekends. Janet and her parents love to do
some exercises to keep their bodies in good shape and healthy thanks to their bikes. Her dad’s
bike is black and orange and her mom’s bike is silver with a golden flag. They always use
their helmets to protect their heads from injuries and the rain. They look both ways when
they are riding. It’s very important to be safe!

Using bond paper, markers, colors and everything you and your teacher have let’s
create a poster about bike safety. Some possible topics are:

Signaling
Turning right and left appropriately
Riding with traffic
Wearing a helmet
Stopping at Stop Signs
Making eye contact with drivers.

Teacher: have the kids to present their posters to the class, and display the finished
products around the classroom.
