Yesterday, June 4, 2019, an article appeared on Irrawaddy which was about a talk given by
Sidney Jones on May 30, 2019, in Bangkok. Ms. Sidney Jones is a security expert and
director of the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict (IPAC). She made some statements that
have ruffled the feathers of many observers, including myself. She stated:
With all due respect, Sidney Jones, are you crazy? Let’s start here:
• He added: "Because terrorism is to disbelieve in those slogans and to believe in Allah. Terrorism
is to refer to Allah's law for judgment... terrorism is to refuse humiliation... Terrorism is for the
Muslim to live as a Muslim, honorably with might and freedom. Terrorism is to insist upon your
rights and not give them up... But terrorism does not include the killing of Muslims in Burma and
the burning of their homes... All this is not terrorism. Rather it is freedom, democracy, peace,
security, and tolerance!”

more and more mentioning Burma/
Myanmar, Arakan, and Buddhists, and
calling for total jihad against the Buddhist
people of Arakan as well as all of Burma,
and even all Buddhists in Bangladesh,
Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, etc. The
main magazines were: ‘RUMIYAH’, and
‘DABIQ' both from ISIS, ‘INSPIRE’ from
al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula and
‘RESURGENCE’ from al-Qaeda in the
Indian Subcontinent.
(words in red are highlighted by myself, words in parenthesis are explanations of terms)
From ISIS magazine DABIQ, issue 14, April 2016.
Dabiq magazine interviews Shaykh Abū Ibrāhīm al-Hanīf, the Amīr of the Khilāfah’s
soldiers in Bengal.
DĀBIQ: How are you planning to aid the weak and oppressed Muslims in the region,
especially those of Burma?
SH. ABŪ IBRĀHĪM: “The Muslims in Burma have been oppressed by the mushrik Buddhists
for a long period of time (mushrik is a derogatory term for ‘idol worshippers’). Our hearts are
with them and we believe it is a duty upon us to help them and support them in every
possible way. And we will begin launching operations within Burma once we’ve reached the
capability to do so. However, we believe it will be more effective to strengthen the jihād front
in Bengal first before fully moving into Burma, as fighting the nearer murtaddīn (another
derogatory and intolerant term used to denigrate more tolerant Muslims) takes precedence
over fighting the farther enemy.”
Allah said, “O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the kuffār
(same meaning as infidel, but even more hateful and intolerant)
and let them find in you harshness.
And know that Allah is with the righteous.”
The kafir (derogatory, intolerant term for non-muslim) regime in Burma can only be fought
effectively after we bring an end to the apostate Bengali regime. And Allah knows best.”
SH. ABŪ IBRĀHĪM: “Bengal is an important region for the Khilāfah and the global jihād due
to its strategic geographic position. Bengal is located on the eastern side of India, whereas
Wilāyat Khurāsān (Afghanistan and Pakistan areas) is located on its western side. Thus,
having a strong jihād base in Bengal will facilitate performing guerilla attacks inside India
simultaneously from both sides and facilitate creating a condition of tawahhush
(Management of Savagery - carrying out a campaign of constant violent attacks to exhaust
the ability and will to maintain authority, allowing chaos - or ‘savagery’ - to ensue. Extreme
violence is emphasized.) in India along with the help of the existing local mujāhidīn there,
until the soldiers of the Khilāfah are able to enter with a conventional army and completely
liberate the region from the mushrikīn, after first getting rid of the Pakistani and Afghani
regimes. Also, jihād in Bengal is a stepping-stone for jihād in Burma as already mentioned.”
"I address Myanmar's youth: take up the sword and kill in the path of God. No doubt, God is
with us. Our centers, our resources, our training, our people, everything is available to provide
to you."
