A. Content Standard: The learners acquires knowledge of appropriate reading s in strategies for a better
understanding of academic text.

B. Performance Standard: The learners produces a detailed abstract of information gathered from the
various academic text read.

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson the learners should be able to:
1. Define academic writing and distinguish it from other kind of writing.
2. Identify the purpose, audience, language, and style of academic writing.
3. Analyze sample text using the standards of academic writing.
4. And situate academic writing in the Phil. Context.

II. Subject Matter:

 Topic: Nature of academic text.

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson:


 The teacher review by asking
 How many times have you been write about your summer vacation?
B. Motivation: Who among you here have you been assigned to do a book review or reaction paper?

C. Establishing a purpose for the lesson:


 Group the class into 5 member in each group. Let’s have a group discussion.

D. Presentation:
 At this point, you were also asked to write poems, skits, letter, etc.

E. Discussion :
 You have had different writing assignments, but have you really pondered on the differences of the various
writing assignments that you have done?
 Would you know the differences between an academic essay and personal narrative?
 Can you distinguish a news report from an editorials?

F. Generalization:
 Based on your answers what do you think is academic writing and its differences from other kinds of writing?

 Read and evaluate these four texts and answer the following questions after reading them.
In your opinion, which of the texts is an academic text?
