ACTIVITY PLAN FOR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

I. Objectives:

A. Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and
other text types serve as ways of expressing and resolving personal
conflicts, also how to use strategies in linking textual information,
repairing, enhancing communication public speaking, emphasis
markers in persuasive texts, different forms of modals, reflexive and
intensive pronouns.

B. Performance Standards: The learner composes a short but powerful persuasive text using a
variety of persuasive techniques and devices.

A. MEET THE TEACHER

The teacher welcomes the students to the class, gives background about
himself/herself and makes everyone comfortable by assuring them that English class will
be enjoyable and challenging.

B. SIT ON THAT CHAIR

This is a modified activity adapted from the original name “Get on that chair” so
students can have the opportunity to get to know each other more.

Procedure:
1. Let the students will form 3 equal groups.
2. For every group, place a chair equivalent to the number of the group
members.
3. All the chairs should be lined up in a single line.
4. Every student has to sit on a chair. Then, ask them to go sit in a certain
order.

For example:

“I want you to organize yourselves from young to old.” The students now have to
change places.
 From tall to short
 Names from A to Z
 Barangays where they live from Z to A
 Number of siblings

5. To make it more challenging, the teacher can set a time limit.

C. OPPS! RULES FIRST

This activity will guide students to come up with some rules to be observed
during English class.

Materials:
Colored cartolina, markers, crayons

 Have the students form groups of 5 members.


 Then distribute the materials.
 Ask the students to form 5 rules that they want to be followed during
English class.
 Have them present their output and help them put together all the rules
they listed to come up with a unified classroom rules.

D. TEST ME

The teacher administers a 50-item pretest found in the Learner’s Module pp. 2-5
or the teacher may opt to give his/her own teacher-made pretest.
