Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan for Grade 9 Health

1st Quarter

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. Discuss strategies in the prevention and control of substance use and abuse.
b. Apply decision-making and resistance skills in situations related to substance use and
abuse.
c. Describe healthful alternatives to substance use and abuse.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
TOPIC: PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF SUBSTANCE USE AND ABUSE
Reference: grade-9 module (P.E and Health) pages 308-316
Materials: visual aids, Manila paper, marker pen, envelope.
III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activity
• Prayer
• Classroom management
•Checking of attendance
• Review
B. Motivation
 Group students into 3. Set them fill in the missing letter to unlock the words from
the envelope given to them. Clues and hints are provided. The first to post their
answer on the board will be declared as the winner. They will be given 2minutes
to work on that activity.

C. Presentation
 Based on the activity that you had a while ago, our topic for this morning is all
about prevention and control of substance use and abuse.
IMMERSSION- the action of immersing someone or something in a liquid.
ALTERNATIVES-of one or more things& available as another possibility.
RESISTANCE-the refusal to accept or comply with something; the attempt to
prevent something by action or argument.
FACTORS- a circumstance, fact, or influence that contributes to a result or outcome.
D. Lesson Proper
our next activity, I am going to group you again into 3 and will give each group a
task. Each group will be given a topic to discuss. They will be given 5 minutes to
prepare and discuss with their group mates and 5 minutes to present their report to the
class. They must present a yell first before their presentation
IV. APPLICATION
Create a box of information which will include:
 A map of your community
 Pictures related to the topic
 Information and data collected
The box of information can be made either of wood or cardboard. Creativity is encouraged
like the use of lights and sounds.
VI. EVALUATION
In a whole sheet of paper, answer this essay type of questions. 5 points each.
1. Why do people abuse substances such as alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs?
2. What will you do if you found out that your classmate has a problem with drugs?
VII. ASSIGNMENT
In the same group. Create your own armor shield against drug use, abuse and dependence. Be
very creative. Simple drawings will suffice. Your armor shield will look like an emblem. Put
it in a 1/4 illustration board.
