Should Mahidol University International Demonstration School provide a revision day for
quarter examination?
During the examination period, high school students are busy, preparing for the
upcoming tests. Students in many schools are struggling with limited revision time and loaded
amount of examination. In an article by Keeley (2017), the amount of revision time depends on
the number of enrolled courses, studying styles, and personal goals. Mahidol University
International Demonstration School offers students various elective courses along with core
subjects such as Mathematics, Science studies, and History. There are a lot of courses which
requires final examinations. The school tries to solve the problem of loaded examinations by
changing some of them into final projects which reduces the amount of exam, but these projects
also reduce the exam revision time. With the fact that the revision time depends on many factors,
how many revision days do MUIDS students need for quarter examination? And what course do
MUIDS students spend the most time reviewing for the exam? Mahidol University international
Demonstration school should provide students with a revision day for quarter examination by
considering the number of courses and time taken for reviewing each course.
The purpose of this research report is to find out the number of for revision days that
MUIDS students prefer, the time when they normally start to review, and what subject do they
spend the most time on reviewing. The following research is important as it raises the
much-needed awareness to the school in the aspect of properly managing appropriate numbers of
revision day for the students. It will also guide students to manage their revision schedule, and
assist them in finding the best way to review for the examinations. In this research report, the
author uses three academic articles from different sources in order to emphasize the point of
doing the survey and relate the interpretations to other research studies.
There are two questions in the survey. The first question asked for the number of revision
days that MUIDS students prefer. The choices are one day, two days, more than two days, less
than one day, and no revision day. The result in figure 1 shows that 22 or 36.7% of the students
prefer two revision days, 18 or 30% of students prefer more than two revision days, 14 or 23.3%
of students prefer one revision day, 3 or 5% of students prefer less than one revision day, and
other 3 or 5% of the students do not prefer any revision day. The second question asked for a
subject that students spend the most time reviewing for the examination. The choices are
mathematics, biology, history, elective courses, and computer. The result in figure 2 shows that
24 or 39.3% of the students think that mathematics is the subject that takes the most time to
review, while 22 or 35.7% of the students think that biology is the most time-consuming subject
followed by history, elective subjects, and computer with the number of 9, 3, and 2 or the
percentages of 16.1%, 5.4%, and 3.6% respectively. From the result, it can be seen that most of
the students prefer two revision day. In this range of time, they will have enough time to review
for the examination. Most of the students think that Mathematics takes the most time to review.
However, mathematics is not a reading-subject, students need to practice doing the exercises and
experience several types of question, which means the students need to manage their time
efficiently in reviewing each of the subjects that they are assigned to.
homework and projects to be done before the examination because some subjects do not require
examination instead they require projects. Students have to manage their time to do the projects
and assigned homework. At the same time, they have to review for the examination. The lack of
revision time may cause the students to feel stressed and nervous, especially for some students
who worry about getting good grades. Studying with a limit amount of time can also cause
anxiety (Roussos, 2018). The studying techniques depend on different learning styles. Time is
not the only concern, the students also need to know how to review effectively depends on what
subject they are reviewing and what is their style of learning (Fleming, 2018). Therefore, it is
very important that the school should provide time for students to review for the examination by
taking into account the amount of student’s assigned work, the appropriate revision time for each
subject, and the student’s learning styles. Students who know how to review efficiently and have
enough time to review will be able to take all of their capabilities to do the examination
effectively.

Figure 2 The subject that students spend the most time reviewing
From the research report, it can be concluded that Mahidol University International
Demonstration School should provide the students two revision days before the examination.
However, it is very important for students to manage their time well. Despite the fact that each
subject requires a different amount of revision time and a different way of studying, students
need to know how to prioritize the subjects they should review first and last, how much time
should they spend on each subject, and how to review the particular subject effectively.
