(REGULATIONS-2015)

Time: 3 Maximum Marks: 100 Marks

(Answer ALL the questions

PART-A (10 X 2 = 20 Marks)

1. What is difference between plane surveying and geodetic surveying?
2. Explain the role of cross staff in chain surveying
3. What is difference between bearing and an angle?
4. Convert the bearing 1200 given in whole circle bearing to reduced bearing
5. List out different types of bench marks
6. Define contour and contour interval
7. Write any two uses of theodolite
8. What is latitude and departure ?
9. What is difference between compound and reverse curves
10. Define reconnaissance survey
PART-B (5X 16 = 80 Marks)
11. a) Define surveying and write in detail about two main principles of surveying
(OR)
11.b) i)A survey line ABC cuts the banks of a river at B and C, and to determine the distance BC, a line
BE, 60m long was set out roughly parallel to the river. A point D was then found in CE produced and
middle point F of DB determined. EF was then produced to G, making FG equal to EF, and DG
produced to cut the survey line in H. GH and HB were found to be 40 and 80 meters long
respectively. Find the distance from B to C ( 10 M)
ii) Draw any five conventional symbols used in plotting a chain survey ( 6 M)

12. a) i) What is difference between surveyors compass and prismatic compass? (10 M)

ii) What are temporary adjustments done in field before using prismatic compass for surveying?
( 6 M)
(OR)
12. b) The following bearings are observed while traversing with a compass and tape. Check the
bearings for local attraction. Correct the bearings by the method of including angles.

EA 2930 30’ 1130 00’
13. a) i) What are characteristics of contours? ( 8 M)

ii) Explain direct and indirect methods of plotting contours ( 8 M)

(OR)

13. b) The following figures were extracted from a level field book, some of the entries being illegible
owing to exposure to rain. Insert the missing figures and check your results. Use rise and fall method

14. a) Explain in detail about methods used to rectify closing error

(OR)

14. b) Write about two methods used for finding horizontal angles. List out advantages of each method

15.a) Explain in detail about Rankine’s Method of setting out a curve with neat sketches

(OR)

15.b) Two tangents intersect at chainage 1250 m. The angle of intersection is 1500. Calculate all data
necessary for setting out a curve of radius 250 m by the deflection angle method. The peg intervals may
be taken as 20 m. prepare a setting out table when the least count of the vernier is 20”. Calculate the data
for field checking.
