Consumer electronics play a crucial role in the modern world. Today

people around us are more often associated with electronic
equipment’s in their daily life. Most of the day to day usage products
like household items, devices for entertainments, medical
equipment’s, defence, safety, security systems etc.., are all included in
the electronic industry.
Our country has reached a position of developing nation or been a
part of other country welfare due to the tremendous growth in the
consumer electronics thus the role of the consumer electronics in the
field all over the nation or world is tremendously high.
It plays a vital role in the life of the people consumer electronics in
the Indian electronic industry accounts of 40% electronics hardware
products and with the Indian electronic companies going the
manufacturing base is on a steady rise. Electronic industry is currently
worth $10 billion but according to estimates has the potential to reach
$60 billion by 2015.

Global scenario

The science and engineering of electronics are less than 100 years old.
Developments in electronics have been very fast, particularly over the
past three decades and the industrial and commercial applications
have fortunately kept place with their developments. Global
communications of information, digital computers, data processing at
incredible speed, robots, controls of machines, process and energy etc.

Indian scenario

Numerous issues confront the Indian electronics industry at the

In terms of potential India is the second largest market for electronics
in the world. Taking the entire market, consumer electronics holds
about 40% share and the rest 60% with electronic hardware
production. In Indian scenario upto 1980s the electronic industry had
grown around three major centres namely Mumbai, Pune and Delhi.
Now the trend is that south Indian cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad
and Chennai seems to be rising past north Indian regions in struggle
to become next power house country. The principal strength is south
India for the growth of electronic industry is the abundant availability
of skilled and technically.

State scenario
In electronic industry when o/e/n takes state wise contributions, Karnataka occupies first space
and Kerala comes to the sixth place. From this the role played by the Kerala in electronic market
is not bad.
The prime reasons are, Kerala has a good marketing base, good trading centre, free
environment, notified industrial estate, state government derived in their field and moreover good
place for import and export.
