Academic Success Lab 2.

Purpose
The purpose of Academic Success Lab is to provide students a structured, staff monitored time
beyond their normal school day to work on homework completion, make-up work, re-takes,
multiple and varied assessment opportunities.

When: Students will have this opportunity on the following dates and times:
● Tuesday - 3:45pm-4:30pm - Certified Staff Coverage
● Thursday - 3:45pm-4:30pm - Certified Staff Coverage

Where: Library

What it is:
● ASL is an extra opportunity for work completion, make-up work, re-takes, multiple and
varied assessment opportunities, this is not a punishment or something that a student
MUST do, but rather an opportunity.
● All students will need to have a referral from a teacher to attend ASL. The purpose of
this referral will be so that our ASL staff will know who is supposed to be at ASL. In
addition, our ASL staff will then be aware of how to best serve the students who are
assigned to ASL.
● Family Role:
○ If a family wants their child to attend ASL for work completion, please work
through your child’s teachers to coordinate this so the teacher has a specific
purpose for your child to be at ASL and your child will have specific tasks our
teachers can assist with.
○ All students must be picked up from ASL at 4:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday,
staff cannot stay past this time.
● Student Role:
○ If a child is referred to ASL by staff, we will require them to stay for the duration
of ASL so we can keep all students safe and accounted for.
○ Students sign into ASL with information from their yellow pass from inbox.
● Staff Responsibilities:
○ Teachers must communicate and receive confirmation via email/telephone that a
student has permission to attend ASL on the assigned date.
○ ASL teacher please retrieve referral forms from box in the teacher workroom.
○ Teachers must fill out an ASL referral form and place the form with attached
work, retake, etc., and place in the ASL box that will be located in the 1st floor
teacher workroom.
○ Passes/Form must include the following and are located in team rooms, supply
room, and teacher work rooms
■ Form includes student name, date referred/assigned, teacher name, and
description of the activity/assignment/project, parent contact via
email/phone/in-person on ______ date.
● ASL Staff Responsibilities
○ ASL staff documents those students assigned to ASL and marks off those
students who attend
○ We will have four teachers at the ASL at one time working with our students
○ Staff indicate what their referral was for: work completion, retake or multiple and
varied assessment and if it was completed in order to monitor the effectiveness
of ASL
○ Staff return completed work to the teacher’s mailbox who referred the student
following ASL
■ If work is not completed, it will stay in the ASL “inbox” - i.e., if work is not
in the teacher’s mailbox, then the teacher should assume that it was not
completed and they may need to contact the parents for another ASL
time.
