INTRODUCTION

Rationale of the study

Cyber safety is a pervasive and global problem. It is an international phenomenon that is widely
unregulared, adolescents all over the world are progressively becoming technologically savy
and digitally trendy, as communication through use of cellphones and other handheld devices
such as ipods and internet access using computers, become part of adolescents lifestyle. This
recent globalization and easy access to the internet and other technologies among adolescent
have become the focus of news reports and research.

A sixteen year-old grade 10 girl received pornographic emails from a classmate. All of these
reports, ranging from virtual flaming to sexually suggestive comments and the distribution of
explicit photographs traumatize adolescents.

The greatest impact of these embarrassing inciedents is that the various effects of cyber
bullying are impressive to nullify once electronically shared. Hurtful messages, emotional
struggles and anxiety over peer pressure are growing challenge for today’s youth to deal with.
Unlike growing up in the days when technology was not available at every teen’s fingertips,
bullying incidences present a challenge to trace bullying on the internet makes it difficult for
school staff.

Thus, this study investigates the cyber bullying issue among junior students in Pajo National
High School for school year 2016-2017.
Theoritical background

Many news stories have reported cyberbullying incidents from all the world. Cyberbullying and
sexting and most recently sextbullying, have been at the forefronts of these technological
phenomena which can lead to online harassment, teen suicide, and jail time of child
pornography. It does not only affect children but also adults, and the average age that
cyberbullying becomes an issue is mainly between the ages of thirteen to seventeen, which is
cousing many victims to loose their self esteem and social skills of a young age, finding it hard
to trust people that are involved in their life. Young girls and teens are more likely to become
victims of cyberbullying and 58% of cyberbullying has been done, as bullies believe that it is
easy way to get back at someone. 90% of teenagers who are victims of cyberbullying don’t
inform their parents about the abuse and more than 25% of adolescents are experiencing
cyberbullying right now. It makes vitims feel depressed, stressed, unworthy, guilty for
something they haven’t done, alone, rejected and also very unsafe and afraid of their peers.
This has caused many victims to consider suicide as a possible option to run away from
everything they are having to experience.

Bullying in schools has become a large concern across the country, With the advances of
technology a new form of of bullying has been created, cyber-bullying, and it has become a
growing problem in schools. In conjunction with this rise in bullying, schools and educators are
now responsible for addressing bullying incidents in schools. In an article by Bradshaw (207)
entitled “Bullying and Peer Victimization at School: Perceptual Differences between Students
and School Staff,” results showed that an educator’s childhood experiences with bullying
affected how they dealt with bullying as educators and that staff was unaware of how often
students were being bullied. From Bradshaw’s the research conducted it looks as though anti-
bullying interventions have not addresses this problem. By having more information on how
much training educators have and if how their history with bullying can affect how they address
bullying situations a more comprehensive and affective anti-bullying interventions can be
created. We will pursue this topic in our research
