Class, kindly get your assignment
and let’s check it altogether.

Directions: Identify what network

cabling tool or material is being
referred to in the following items. Students will answer:

Network cable tester

1. It is used to check if the network
cable being spliced or terminated
is functional. Crimping tool
2. A tool used to crimp UTP cable to
RJ-45 connector.
3. An eight-wire connector used to
connect computers to Category 5 RJ-45 connector
UTP cables in a network.
4. A tool used to remove the outer
jacket or insulation of the UTP Wire stripper
cable.

5. Review of the past lesson

Class, can you still remember our

past lesson? Yes sir.
What was our past lesson all about?
It’s about the different network cabling

Now, can you give me some
examples of these tools and UTP, RJ-45, network cable tester,
materials? crimping tool, wire stripper and punch
down tool.
Very good!

B. Motivation

Class kindly settle down and put your

attention to the front as I play this short
video clip. At the end of the video clip I will
ask you some questions.

Is that clear? Yes sir.

be shown on the projector.

After showing the video clip, the teacher

will ask the students.

Class, what can you say about the video It is all about how the computer
clip you have just watched? networks connect and work.

Yes, it’s all about computer networks, how

computers connect and work. How do
computers connect physically? We will find
out them in today’s lesson.

C. Lesson Proper (Using slideshow
presentation)

Alright, before we proceed to our main topic,

let us define some terms as we will encounter
them throughout the discussion.

Ethernet cable – a network cable used to Students will read the definition
connect devices on local area networks such
as PCs, routers, and switches.

Computer network – is composed of two or Students will read the definition

more computers that share data and
resources.
Students will read the definition
Crimping – process joining two pieces of
metal (usually a wire and a metal plate) by
deforming one or both of them to hold the
other.

Hub – used as the central object on which Students will read the definition
computers and other devices are connected.

Local Area Network (LAN) – a group of Students will read the definition
interconnected computers that are under the
same administrative control.
Students will read the definition.
Pin - piece of metal used to fasten two things
together.

Today, we will be discussing about

LAN/Ethernet cabling. Particularly, the
straight-through cabling. We will also be
discussing when to use and how to create a
straight-through cable.
Students will read the definition.
Ethernet/LAN Cabling - the process of
creating cable used to create a network that
interconnects computers and other network
devices.

Alright, Ethernet/LAN cabling is the process of

creating cables used to connect a network.
Now, there are two types of Ethernet/LAN
cables, and what are these?

Types of Ethernet/LAN Cables

1. Straight-through Cable
2. Crossover Cable

Now, there are two types of Ethernet/LAN

cables. The first one is straight-through cable
and the other is the crossover cable. But for
this session, we will be focusing on the
straight-through cable.

So, what is a straight-through cable?

Students will read the definition.
Straight-through cable - a type of twisted pair
cable that is used in local area networks to
connect a computer to a network hub such as
3
I.E. 402
a router.

It is said that the straight-through cable is

used to connect a computer to a network hub
such as a router. Therefore, when do we use
straight-through cable?

The teacher will give examples of the

instances that a straight-through cable will be
used.

Class, these are the connections that use

straight-through cable.

Now, class from these examples, what have

you observed?
Straight-through cables are used to
Very good. connect different devices.

Rule of Thumb:
4
I.E. 402
We use straight-through cable when
connecting two different devices.

Alright, you know when to use straight-

through cable. The next thing is, how do you
create a straight-through cable?

Now, when terminating or splicing a straight-

through cable we have to follow industry
standards. There are two color combination
standards used in creating a straight-through
cable. The first is the T568A and the other one
is the T568B color combination. So, for
instance, if we use T568A on one side of the
cable we also use the same code on the other
side. Did you get it?
Yes sir

Color Codes for Terminating a Straight-

through Cable
1. T568A
2. T568B

T568A

T568B

However, it is a common practice in the

industry that the T568B color code is used for
straight-through cables. Which means, we will
be using the T568B in creating our straight-
through cable, although, T568A can also be
used in creating a straight-through cable.

Do you understand class?

Alright, we already identified what color code

will be used for our straight-through cable.
Now, I will demonstrate to you how to make a Yes sir.
straight through cable. But before making the
straight-through cable, let me remind you of
5
I.E. 402
the safety precautions.

Safety Precautions:
 Avoid horse playing
 Use the proper tool
 Always be on task
 Be vigilant

Am I clear?

Now, here are the steps in creating a straight

through cable. You should carefully observe as
I demonstrate because after this, you will be Yes sir.
making your own straight-through cable.
Am I understood?

The teacher will demonstrate to the class how

to create a straight-through cable.
Yes sir.
Steps in Creating a Straight-through Cable
1. Prepare all materials needed.
2. Remove the outer jacket/insulation of
the cable to about one inch.
3. Untwist the cable pairs, spread the
wires, and arrange them based on
T568B color code.
4. Straighten and flatten the wires
between your thumb and forefinger.
5. Trim the untwisted wires to about ½
to ¾ of an inch.
6. The exposed copper pins on the RJ-45
connector must be facing towards
you. Ensure that the wires are in
order from left to right starting from
pin 1.
7. Insert the wire firmly into the RJ-45
connector until all wires are pushed
as far as possible into the connector.
8. Visually inspect the cable and ensure
the right wire codes match the pin
numbers and the eight wires should
be pressed firmly against the end of
the RJ-45 connector.
9. Place the RJ-45 connector and cable
into the crimping tool and crimp the
RJ-45 connector until you hear a click
from it.
10. Repeat all the previous steps with the
other end of the cable.
11. Test the cable using the network cable
tester.

There you have it. Those are the steps. I have

just created a straight-through cable.

Were you able to follow the procedure class?

Do you have questions or clarifications?

groupings. You also have the tools and
materials with you. If you have any questions
during the activity, you should raise your hand
for you to be recognized. Also, minimize your
voice and avoid unnecessary noise while
performing the activity.

Am I clear?

The teacher is facilitating the activity.

After the activity.
Yes sir
Did you enjoy our activity?
Did you learn from our topic today? The students are doing the activity.
Do you have any questions or clarifications
about our topic today?
Yes sir.
E. Generalization Yes sir.

When do we use a straight-through cable? No sir.

Give an example of a connection that uses

straight-through cable. We use straight-through cable when
connecting two different devices.
What are the 2 color standards used in
straight-through cabling? Connecting a computer and a router.

What color standard is commonly used in

industry in creating a straight-through cable? The color standards used are the T568A
and T568B.
What is the color combination of the T568B
color standard starting from pin 1 up to pin 8? T568B is the color standard used in a
straight-through cable.

For instance, I use T568B on this end of the The color combination is white-orange,
cable, what color code will I use on the other orange, white-green, blue, white-blue,
