 Step 2 - Professional Growth Action Plan
Activities
What specific growth activities will you engage in to
obtain the identified new learning? The activities should
focus on both the content knowledge you acquire as well
as the skills you develop.
1) First, I will gain knowledge on depression by
reading materials about the illness and about
data-informed strategies that have helped those
impacted. I will also research curricula
developed specifically for small groups for
middle schoolers impacted by depression.
Additionally, I will research helpful skills used
by small group facilitators and practice those
before beginning the group.
Proposed Evidence
Briefly describe the evidence that you will collect. Evidence
may include areas beyond test scores such as attendance
rates, discipline referrals, programs implemented, and other
P-12 student or adult data.
1) If no surveys or evaluations exist with the curricula I
find and use, I will develop surveys for students to
measure their change in knowledge, attitudes, and
behaviors throughout the group. I will also give
perception surveys to their parents or guardians to
measure change they see in their student. Finally, I
will measure grades before and after the group to see
if it impacted their academic performance as well as
their mental health.

2) I will start by talking with staff and students
about the needs and challenges that most students
have and face. I will then research local
community organizations by searching online for
information, and especially focus on
organizations that help youth with the issues that
impact students at my school. Finally, I will
connect with people from the organizations by
setting up meetings to learn more about the
services they offer and how to access them.
From there I will work to build relationships with
those at the organizations and share the
information and connections with school staff,
students, and families.
Step 3 – Review of Plan
2) I will share the information about community
organizations in flyers and online on the school
website or a site tied to the school website. I will
track the referrals I make to students and families and
measure students’ growth depending on what their
struggles were before the referral was made. For
example, if a student struggles with attendance due to
food insecurity at home, I will see if their attendance
rate increases after I refer them to a local food bank.
