QUESTIONS FOR PESO INTERVIEW

1. Where the isolation valves located for mobile tankers?

→ At bottom of tanker inside metal box.

2. Draw nozzle connections for mobile tanker.

→ See attached sketch.

3. In one interview, they showed one water bottle and said, pressure inside this bottle is 1.15 kg/sqcm &
capacity is more than 1 KL. Is it pressure vessel?
→ No, because pressure vessel shall be of metal construction.

4. Type of different valves used in LPG installations.

→ Ball Valve, Plug Valve, Gate Valve, NRV, Excess Flow Check Valves, Needle Valves, TSVs, SRVs etc.

5. Under which SMPV (U) Rule you applied for?

→ Rule 18 – Testing of SRVs
→ Rule 19 – Statutory Periodic Testing of Pressure Vessels.
→ Rule 13 (2) – Stage Inspection of newly fabricated Pressure Vessels.

6. Sequence of stages for Pressure Vessel manufacture & inspection.

→ Approve design & drawing.
Material identification.
Welder Qualification.
L’seam, C’seam set ups.
Dish end inspection.
Review of Radiography
Nozzle opening / set up, Review testing of PTC.
Final inspection before SR.
Review SR chart.
Witness hydro test, Hard Stamping.
Issue COC & endorsed.
As built drgs.

7. They will ask for different definitions -

→ Refer Rule 2 of SMPV (U) Rules.

8. Function of EFCV
In normal operations of loading and unloading, the in-line flow is restricted by the pressure drop through the
hose and or pipeline. In the event of a rupture, disconnection, or line break, the pressure will drop, the flow
will surge exceeding the spring load limit, and the valve will close.

9. Do you know about design of Pressure Vessels?

→ Yes
→ Refer a) shell / dished / SRVs sizing & closing flow rate calculations.
b) Different Material Specification as per ASTM & IS Standards.
c) Allowable stress valves of different material.
Contd.....2/-
10. What are the different construction CODES?
→ IS 2825
→ ASME SEC VII Div 1 & 2
→ PD 5500
→ EN 13458 for Cryogenic Vessels
EN 13530

11. Refer OISD 150 for mounded storage.

12. Classification of Hazardous Area

→ Refer Rule 32A of SMPV (U) Rules.

13. CP System Standards -

→ NACE RP 169 and any other codes accepted by PESO.

14. Refer different Test Procedures for

→ NDT
→ Hydro test
→ Stress Relieving
→ Pneumatic Test etc.

15. For U/G and Mounded Vessels PWHT is must.

16. What is acceptance criteria for CP system of ALPG tanks?

→ Cathodic Potential shall be between (-) 850 to (-) 1200 mv as per OISD 150

17. Where SRVs are located for mobile tanker, and type of SRVs?
→ On top of tanker inside Weld Caps.
Type – SRVs having spring at lower side towards vessel.

18. What is the percentage to be considered during SRVs calculation of mounded vessels?
→ 30%

19. Standard to be followed for SRVs testing.

→ Internal Valves with Excess Flow device.

21. No. of SRVs for Pressure Vessels?

→ As per Calculation, min 2 nos. (one standby).

22. Duration for statutory testing under Rule 19.

→ a) 5 years
→ b) 2 years for Corrosive & Toxic Service.
→ c) U/G & mounded vessels – NDT + Pneumatic test after 5 years.
NDT + hydro after every 10 years.
→ d) for Ammonia Sphere – 1st only NDT after 2 years
(Ref 19(5)(a), (b) & (c) 2nd NDT + hydro after 3 years
3rd NDT + Hydro after 5 years
(same after every 5 years)
23. What are the tests to be carried out during statutory testing under Rule 19?
→ Vessel up to 100KL – Visual + UTM + hydro
