VSC NEWSLETTER FOR JUNE 2019

WWW.BHCARE.ORG FOR MORE! Volume 62, Issue 6

FROM THE PRESIDENTS DESK BY THE SECRETARY PAULA B.

Recently our club members went to the Open Door Club in Milford.
There was plenty of dancing going on with both clubs. Phyllis was DJ
and does an amazing job playing the music. There was plenty of food
we all enjoyed together. We love visiting with our friends from Milford!

OUR DAY OF HOPE!

It was a packed club with OPTIONS joining us too! BHcare staff picked the seven
entries. There were many submissions too so competition for first place was tight!
Our own Dave J. emerged the winner this year. The entries are still on the wall in
the club so come in and read them. All were pretty amazing! Congrats and please
see page 2 and 3 of this newsletter for the top three winners!

A PICNIC LUNCH AT NOLAN FIELD IN ANSONIA

Last week a group of club members enjoyed a trip to Nolan Field in Ansonia. We
enjoyed a picnic lunch with Jacques. After we walked the track. We had fun and
lots of conversation too! It was a beautiful day to spend out of the club.

A WORD FROM OUR VP SYLVIA H.

Welcome to summer everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the nicer
weather. I know I am glad summers here! May was a good
celebration for all of us at BHcare. Thank you to all who shared in our
celebration. Mayer Dave Cassetti, the staff appreciation committee,
staff of BHcare and our clients and families, who without their
support we could never have recovery as we do today! June, July, August brings
fun in the sun! Things to do: make a point to check out and sign up for these
events! A good time is sure to be had and remember good mental health includes
getting natural light and things that make you think of the sky and sunshine and
natural surroundings. The peace and quiet of these surroundings are bigger than
you and make the daily order of things not seem to much to handle. Simple advice
for an enjoyable summer! See you at the club!

From weakness to strength
There was a time I forgot to smile
Has taken awhile. my soul was dark, my mind was fragile.

From confusing to understanding I didn’t remember how strong I could be,

Means a lot to me. there was a weakness flowing through me.

I am in a better place today The days were an endless haze of despair,

I thought that no one was there who cared.
Like being locked up
To being set free. Through this time when I felt so down
many of my friends were not around.
I’ve come from weakness to
strength
I do recall what changed for me-
I’ve come to know a better me. that is when I started group therapy.

The gals in group are the best ever-

they want to see me be better forever.

I go to group with gladness in my heart-

Knowing that “my gals” won’t let me fall apart.

My strength has returned, my weakness gone

group is what did it for me- I can carry on.

OPTIONS ART SHOW BY JOHN L.

I recently attended along with other members of the VSC attended the OPTIONS Art
Show in Branford at the local YMCA. It was very nice to see their art work. We
appreciated their kindness and inviting us to see it all. The art work was very
creative and talented. We all enjoyed ourselves. We thank the members for this very
nice time.

OPEN DOOR DANCE BY JOHN L.

The club recently attended a very nice social and dance on May 14th at the Milford
Open Door Club at Bridges in Milford. DJ Phyllis played music for the party goers to
dance too! The staff served tasty appetizers. We met up with our old friend Karen
Evans who made a special appearance. I was very nice seeing her again. We all
enjoyed ourselves. We humbly thank the Open Door Club members and staff for this
lovely time.
