I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, the learners expected to:
 Discuss cigarettes and alcohol as gateway drugs;
 Analyze the implications of cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol
 Explain the impact / effect of cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol on the family,
environment, community, and country.

III. LEARNING PROCEDURES
A. ACTIVITY:
1. The teacher will present an editorial cartoon on the TV and the student will observe
and share their thoughts about the image.

2. The teacher will discuss the cigarettes and alcohol as a gateway drugs.
3. With the help of the PowerPoint presentation the learner will analyze the
implication of cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol.

4. The teacher will let the students know the effects of cigarettes and alcohol in the
body by using a video presentation
IV. Application: The learner will do activity 23 “Keen Senses” which will portray the
effect of alcohol in the body. Page 388.
Materials: Marshmallow, Cotton balls, reading glasses with high grade.
Alcohol depresses the body senses and speech. How does it feel while drinking a
considerable amount of alcohol? One at a time, do the following:
1. Bite a marshmallow and try to talk as normally as you can.
2. Place cotton balls on your ears and talk with your classmates.
3. Put on reading glasses for a short time and try to read paragraph.
4. Hold your ears by crossing your two arms. Bend down and do 10 spins.
How did you feel after doing the tasks above? Write down your reaction and
feelings in your notebook.
 V. Evaluation:

Essay: Based on our lesson today, what are the impacts or the effects of cigarette
smoking and drinking alcohol in a FAMILY, ENVIRONMENT, COMMUNITY AND
COUNTRY.
VI. Assignment:
In a short bond paper, draw something that depicts the cause and effect of gateway
drug use.
