some 6 trillion cigarettes produced every year, creating 1.2 million tons of garbage. And
due to the chemicals and heavy metals in the filters, that garbage is technically toxic
waste. So what if we could get rid of butt litter by using them to make bricks?
Cigarette butt bricks can be used for building and pavement all through-out the

PRODUCTION PROCESS
The manufacturing process of Ciga Brick involves the following stages; (1)
Proportioning (2) Mixing (3) Compacting (4) Curing (5) Drying (6) Heating and (7) Cooling.
Proportioning
Mixing
The mixing process is done to ensure that the Clay-water mixture and cigarette
butt are mixed properly. The raw materials are first crushed and ground. Natural clay
minerals, including kaolin and shale, make up the main body of brick. Small amounts of
manganese, barium, and other additives are blended with the clay to produce different
shades, and barium carbonate is used to improve brick’s chemical resistance to the
elements. Then the ingredients are formed using the extrusion method. The pulverized
ingredients are mixed together with water, passed into a de-airing chamber.
Since, the product is brick, it is needed to be compacted for better strength and
durability of the product. Excessive and lack of compaction would result in poor quality of
the product. The clay mixed with cigarette butts should be well compacted in the different
molds and extruded. After being extruded, it will go to Cutting and Trimming process.
Once the bricks are formed, they are dried to remove excess moisture that might
otherwise cause cracking during the ensuing firing process. The Ciga Brick Is removed
from the mold. After being removed from the mold, it is allowed to dry for two to three
days.
Heating
The heating process is the cooking of cut bricks in kiln that makes the ciga brick
reddish. Once it is heated, the cigarette butt mixed in clay will be burned. After drying, the
brick is loaded onto cars (usually automatically) and fired to be used to convey them
through the tunnel kiln. These cars are pushed through the kiln's continuously maintained
temperature zones at a specific rate that depends on the material. The majority of kilns in
the United States use gas as a fuel source, though a third of the brick currently produced
is fired using solid fuels such as sawdust and coal. Tunnel kilns have changed in design
from high-load, narrow-width kilns to shorter, lower-set wider kilns that can fire more brick.
This type of design has also led to high-velocity, long-flame, and low-temperature flame
burners, which have improved temperature uniformity and lowered fuel consumption.
PRODUCT DESIGN
The product name CigaBrick is based on the company name Ciga Brick Inc. Ciga

Natural clay minerals, including shale and kaolin, make up the main body of brick.
Small amounts of manganese, barium, and other additives are blended with the clay to
produce different shades, and barium carbonate is used to improve brick's chemical
resistance to the elements. Many other additives have been used in brick, including
byproducts from papermaking, ammonium compounds, wetting agents, flocculants
