Dear Sir/Madam,

We area group of students from the Little London High School asking permission to conduct a
research on your business in order to complete our group school-based assessment (S.B.A), so
that we can receive a good grade in our Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams.

Our S.B.A is based on Communication and Operations, so we would like to know more about
that aspect of the firm, for example, if there is good communication between the employees and
the employers causing the business to operate well.

We are hoping that you could schedule a date for us, so that we could be able to come in and ask
some questions and observe your business in order to complete our S.B.A.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours respectfully,

Students of Little London High.

Methodology

For the methodology questionnaire, observation and interview was chosen to be the three
methods.
Questionnaire

Advantages:

1. Cost–efficient: Questionnaires is the most affordable way to gather quantitative data.

2. Speedy results: Its quick and easy to collect results with online and mobile tools.
3. Does not require the revealing of identity: A respondent does not have to reveal their
identity.

Disadvantages:

1. Dishonesty: This can be an issue as respondents may not be 100% truthful with their
answers.
2. Differences in understanding and interpretation: There may be lack of comprehension
without someone being there to explain the questions.
3. Skipped questions: with the usage of questionnaires there may be some ignored
questions.
Observation

Advantages:

1. Simplest method: Observation is most likely the most common and simplest method of
data collection.
2. Greater accuracy: In other methods the researcher is dependent upon the responses that
they get, but with observation the researcher does not have to worry about the accuracy of
the data being supplied.
3. Universal: Observation is a common method used around the world whether physical or
social.

Disadvantages:

1. Some occurrences or may not be open to observation: There are many personal
behaviorsor secret activities which are not open for observation.
2. Slow investigation: observation is a time taking process and for valid results cannot be
hurried.
3. Personal bias: This can cause personal view or looking at things in a way that creates
obstacles for making valid generalization.
Interview

Advantages:

1. Easy correction of speech: Any misunderstanding of and mistake can be rectified easily
in an interview.
2. Development of relationship: Relation between the interviewer and the interviewee can
increase mutual understanding and co-operation.
3. Sufficient information: As the interviewer can ask the interviewee any question.

Disadvantages:

1. Incomplete process: Suitable candidate cannot be selected by interview only.

2. No record: In the case of the interview some confusion may rise in the future as there is
no evidence.
3. Lack of attention: Much attention is required for a good interview.
