Many of my peers stressed over completing this part of the set requirements for their

graduation projects. I, for one, did not. I know what I wanted to do ever since the topic of

Esports appeared in my head, and that was to host my very own, small tournament here at

Garinger High. Of course, it’s easier said than done. There was many factors that just made it

impossible, such being, who would join the tournament? What would the winner win after

winning the tournament? What time would it be hosted? What game would be played? And

many more questions.

Eventually, I had to scratch that idea out and go with alternative plan. Here, at Garinger

High we have many clubs available for the students that go here. One of those clubs happen to be

a Gamer Club, which I attended during 2018, and this year, 2019, aswell. One day, while

attending one of the meetings, the idea of forming a school esports team was thrown, and I was

quick to advocate for it. Here, we went to a program called High School Esports League, known

as HSEL, for short and we began filling all sorts of forms out to get our school involved. Most of

the club members were completely onboard, with some already nominating themselves as team

captains, I being guilty of this as well. What seemed to be a dream coming true, eventually failed

due to the smallest of issues. The main one was everyone not playing on the same platform, such

as people playing on PC, while others different consoles. Due to these minor issues we couldn’t

participate in the tournaments held, and the name “Garinger Games” was sadly shortly live.

Nonetheless, much was learned here and can be used for the future. I learned that before

having set expectations for myself, to prepare myself for the worst of those outcomes, and

carefully map out the possible obstacles that I may face. I hope in the future the name “Garinger

Gamers” can be reborn and thrive, along with esport teams being a common thing for most

highschools nationwide.
